Using Triond’s Content tab to examine articles that attract the most readers.
Triond provides its writers with a handy content tab that you can use to track which articles are hot and why. In this article, I will give the skinny on my hottest articles and discuss what makes them popular with readers.
This is a sampling of some of my most-read articles. Some have only been published a couple of weeks or months.
When examining these articles, the first question that needs to be asked is: why did they attract readers?
It becomes apparent that communication difficulties are common and readers related with this. This article sparked much controversy: those who had been insulted and those who liked to put down others.
Mental health is something that concerns most people. Many people suffer from depression, or have a family member who does, or know of someone who has been afflicted. An article that targets something that affects a large number of people attracts readers.
This “how to,” do-it-yourself beauty article was a surprise. Obviously, many people want to change their appearance and are looking at quick and easy ways to do so.
People like reading about celebrities, especially when there has been a significant or tragic event surrounding them that has touched a worldwide audience.
Leisure activities are a welcome break from the pressures of life but most people worry about the expense. This article examined inexpensive hobbies.
Who doesn’t like donuts? This little article has attracted a wide audience in a short period of time. Foods that most people enjoy are foods that people will read about.
Now, while you can write about the categories above: communication, mental health, beauty, celebrities, hobbies, food, what can you do to “sweeten the pot” for your readers? When you have selected a subject to write about, ask yourself how you can make it more appealing to a greater number of readers.

I can’t see a clear pattern on these articles
There are more articles with title more attractive than ‘Natural Treatments for Depression’, yet hardly get any visitor.

Hi Rana and RJ,
Thanks for your comments.
Hi Balisunset,
The pattern is this: pick a subject, then identify how to make it appeal to a greater number of readers.
I did an experiment: I wrote one article: “Treatments for Depression” then wrote the second article: Natural Treatments for Depression. The first one doesn’t garner many views, while the second one went off the charts. Do you see the pattern? The second one appealed to a wider audience because apparently more people are looking for natural ways to treat depression.
Rule of thumb: when you have selected a subject to write about, ask yourself how you can make it more appealing to a greater number of readers.

Hi Moses,
It can be tricky identifying which keywords to use and how to craft an article that will appeal to readers.

Yes I agree with your tips here Athlyn. In some cases you can think you have written the best article and it gets very few views. Other articles which may not necessarily be your best, get more. It all depends on what the hot topic is for people that day or who reads it and decides that others might benefit. Some good advice.

Hi RJ,
Yes, it’s interesting what is actually hot with readers. I guess that’s the name of the game with writing.
I remember sending out a hard copy article and getting nowhere, after doing extensive market testers, etc. Then, I sent out an article without doing a market tester and it was accepted out of the starting gate. That taught me that sometimes it’s a hit and miss game and the best strategy is to cast a wide net.

I kept on wondering how you make a living writing articles, whenever I read your articles on helping writers. Because it seemed you write about yourself writing.
But this one showed that you wrote on different topics that highly popular.
Very thanks for giving good explanation. Now I can think of similar reasons for some my popular articles.

Hi Sharifa,
One technique I’ve used, to create inbound links to one of my Triond articles involved writing related articles at ArticlesBase and HubPages linking to the Triond article. This was very effective.
A blog is a good place to routinely add links, as well.
