Toner powder is the powder, which is used in laser printers. In its more primitive form, it was made by mixing carbon powder, iron oxide and sugar. But over time, the technique of making toner powder has changed. To improve the quality of the powder, the carbon is melt-mixed with a polymer by the heat of the fuser into the paper. Earlier it was refilled by pouring the carbon powder directly into the cartridge but now it is available in a sealed laser toner cartridge. Most of the color laser toner cartridges come in the colors of cyan, magenta, yellow and black.
Components and manufacture
The polymer that is used in this powder varies from one manufacturer to another. However, these could be styrene acrylate copolymer, a polyester resin, a styrene butadiene copolymer or some other type of polymer. Then again, the toner formulations also vary from one manufacturer to another especially the granule size and the melting point is what vary the most.

The toner has been made to compound the ingredients, create a slab, which is then broken or made into pellets and finally into very fine powder of a particular particle size range by what is known as air jet milling.
