Canadian police put zero effort into Rehtaeh Parsons case, internet activists from group known as “Anonymous” have their own plans.
Rehtaeh Parsons, a 17 year old girl from Nova Scotia, was taken off of life support last Sunday after an unfortunate attempt she made to hang herself the previous week. She was allegedly raped by four boys at a friends house, who preceded to spread a viral story about the rape and her being a “slut”, followed by compromising pictures of the teenage girl.
It’s a horrifying story with that calls for justice and reeks with evidence (such as pictures of the rape spread throughout her entire school by text), but to the surprise of many, the justice system in Nova Scotia has virtually done nothing with the case.
Authorities in Nova Scotia conducted a year long investigation, with the conclusion that they could not charge the boys with rape due to “insufficient evidence”, despite the boys blatantly admitting that they raped the girl and hundreds of students having pictures of the girl on quick dial.
The mother of Rehtaeh and the internet activist group known as “Anonymous” were understandably upset by the lack of action from the authorities, so Anonymous has decided to take their own initiative on the case.
Members from Anonymous have recieved confessions, pictures of the crime, and the contact information from most of the alleged rapists, and are threatening to release the information to the public if no real action is taken. Anonymous continues to assert that the efforts of the authorities were “laughable” and didn’t involve any legitimate “fact finding research, with interviews and interrogations”.
It can be hard with some cases to find out the real truth behind the situation, but when you have confessions and photographic evidence, it’s a little ridiculous to not take action. But that’s just me. You can read more about the story here:
