You’ve Got to Feel Your Way

I haven’t been freelance writing for very long, just a couple of months before that my writing was done purely for pleasure. I had had one short story published a couple of years ago. It was the first and only story I had ever sent away until now that is.

I haven’t been freelance writing for very long, just a couple of months before that my writing was done purely for pleasure. I had had one short story published a couple of years ago. It was the first and only story I had ever sent away until now that is.

Having a family of husband, children and dogs, guinea pigs, gerbils and a crab, I already have a lot of things to keep me occupied but I still sought something else. Something was missing from my life. I felt incomplete and had not managed to tame the wild fires that were burning inside me. So I set off on a quest to find the water that would quench my fires and leave me in a more sedate and restful state.

It didn’t quite work like that! The first writing I ever did was called my Friday treat. At the beginning of the week I would pick a friend and ask her to email her fantasy to me, I would then write her an erotic story to fill that fantasy. On Friday mornings I would email my masterpiece to the group of friends that were all taking part, we all thought it was so much fun and I really, really enjoyed cooking up these stories and I felt I had a real talent for them.

I have the knack and wild imagination to imagine anything I want. I have never in my real life done all the erotic scenes I write about, Oh no, I am quite naive when it comes to the actual physical side of things but then again I can write a cracking piece about a murder and I have never actually committed one in real life but people still judged me for what I wrote. Which is okay, I suppose it is an extension of my personality.

To write a great convincing piece you just have to live that piece in your mind. Imagine where, that right hand is going as it slowly wanders up your warm, olive coloured thigh. How it would feel to you and how it would feel to the other person. What would you see? What would you hear? What would your heart be doing? What would your lips, eyes and mouth be doing?

To make a story of any nature convincible you have to use all your senses to make it feel real. An artist gets inside his painting, feeling the grasses brush against his boots and his nose can smell the spring’s wild flowers or the strawberries on the plate or the big bosomed woman’s freshly baked, delicious plump bread.

Even when you are article writing these same senses play an important part. All the articles I write about are hand picked because I feel a connection, a passion to what I am writing about. If I don’t feel for the article it will show in my writing.

We all have different tastes, methods and interests and that’s what makes us all so unique! Happy writing my friends…just enjoy.

I am glad I wandered into the community this morning and found your peice.

I appreciate your ideas and understand your creative process. I must say it is quite like having cyber sex. Wait! You must understand…you write erotica…what better way than to feel the character, be the character…but as I told a friend before…be careful not to enter the scenario too far because you might not be able to come back.

Some times emmersion causes insanity. Just a word to the wise is in order this day.

Another outstanding article…I think you\’ve nailed this one…get inside your character or circumstance and let the spirit move you…sometimes our personal inhabitions get in the way of what could possibly become a best seller. Great advice. Thanks.

Have no idea why we always get these bloody slashes everytime we use an apostrophe or quotation marks…wish they’d get busy and fix the problem it is bloody annoying. Don’t tell me “There is a problem on this form. Please correct and resubmit.

Fix the bloody problem – sorry for the rant…nothing personal.

A very interesting and thoughtful piece. You are right about needing to feel a connection with your subject and needing to use all your senses when writing.

Words combined with a fertile imagination are a potent combination. The biggest sexual organ anyone possesses is the mind…therefore if you write erotica in the correct way it can lead you past the point of no return. Excellent article as always.

Often times we try to imagine what the writter is really like, but if you got a chance to meet or even speak with them, they are so completely different.

You explained the creative process very well. If we wrote only about the things we have experienced ourselves, most of our writing would be dull indeed

TBH I think you’re a frustrated writer of eroticism, Lisa. I’ll have to read one of your stories—see if you can shock the un-shockable!

Yes, indeed. Very nicely written. And your use of concrete sense details in this non-fiction piece is impressive. It really makes the article come alive. The article oozes sexuality. I think you have a Writinghood hit. I see it’s made the Top 10.

Really nice. The adjectives are great. Thanks for sharing this! And I agree, despite my busy life in school, writing (aside from playing soccer) is something I do to let my frustrations out and so that I can totally express myself!

You said it hun. We have this in common too. I too am new to this whole ‘writing’ thing, to an audience. I too write only about things that mean something to me or I would like to let my friends on triond know. Loved this, so from the heart Lill. You know I love ya.

Writing like writing about writing itself never failed to fascinate me. Of course my friend, anyone could write what he/she wants. You couldn’t judge Stephen King by reading his books or J.K. Rowling by watching Harry Potter. We are a bit lucky of course to do the killing on paper and never be convicted of a crime. Have you learned to murder people in cold blood because you don’t know how to write would be another story. Let us be thankful that we are writing and we are saved from the dirty work.

    Cheers,

    Will

I find stories coming to life when you get inside and become the character. The essence is to feel what the character feels and that helps produce a more realistic effect of what you are trying to portray. Secret is to become ONE with everything around to give a touch of reality… :) Nice write :)

I sometimes write stories about murderers and psychopaths too. I try to put myself in their shoes and imagine the moment, like you said, with all five senses to make the piece as convincing as possible.
Wait, it hit the top ten? Wow… I’ve been saying this a lot lately… wow… I’m still searching for your erotica pieces…
