So much of what a writer does goes on when the writer is not writing.

Where does a writer get ideas from? From life. You say this is such a general answer that it’s useless? Alright, let’s look at how I came up with this article.
After a restless night of sleep, I got up and checked my e-mail. I had a Notification of Publication from Triond. I read the article. I checked my Triond Account. I checked my personal blog and the online edition of the Huffington Post.
I showered and went out and got a six-pack of beer. I came back and drank beer and replied to the comments on my Triond Account and then ate a sandwich and drank more beer while reading and commenting on the articles of other members of the community. This took some time.
I watched some television and did some laundry. I watched some more television and tried to come up with an article for Triond. I couldn’t.
I stretched out on the sofa with pen and paper and thought and thought and thought about an article. Nothing. I fell asleep with the television on. I dreamt I had a book of content to pick from.
I woke up and still had no flash fiction or non-fiction idea to write about. I though I’d write about writer’s block. I thought maybe I’d write some advice about writing or blogging or…
I would write about writing without writing.

Haha, this is actually pretty funny. Especially paragraph 1 -3! And such a good topic to write about… See even writers block can release the clog in our minds to produce something that potentially is going to get a lot of ‘I Like It’s…

You made your writer’s block turn out perfectly. Like it! I just pray for inspiration and it comes.

Hi, Atikin: Well, I was stuck and wanted to get something in and the day was fading away. So, when all else fails write about not being able to write. I’m not the first writer to do it and I won’t be the last.

Hello, Mrs. Heart: I’m sure your method works very well for you. I might get hit by a lightning bolt.

Hello, giftarist: I do a lot of mind writing. When someone asked Hemingway where was his favorite place to work he was supposed to have said, “In my mind.” Even if the story isn’t true it makes for good copy.

Natels, thank you for stopping by. Writing is a gas. I’m finally in a position to do it full time. Or at least until the authorities send me to the poor house. But I hope that day is a long ways off.

Hi, Buma: I was lucky to write this article. I just happen to be in the right place at the right time. Sleeping on the sofa.

Ramalingam, that’s eactly it. Writing about nothing is still writing about something. That’s all any writer can done.

alc, writing can be such fun and right now I’m having great fun on Triond. Before Triond I was a lost blogger. Now I’ve been found.

Katien, that is probably the situation for a lot of writers. But if it doesn’t make it to the keyboard it’s not really writing.

petalangela, somethings other people cannot help a writer with. This is someting that only the writer can do.

I liked it and I know about writers block had it for awhile know

Hi, KitKat93: Writer’s block is real but if a writer realizes it will pass, that the writer should just go on with her life and keep writing, it will all turn out okay in the end.

Sometimes…the best thing you can do for your writing is take a nap or pick up your socks. Dunno what it is about socks…there’s always one or two needing picked up. And when you do, you might see a dust bunny that has a funny shape, which could lead to a line of poetry or a bit of suspense…and then you are off and running. (Or is that just the result of reading “If you take a mouse to school” out loud today?)

Daisy, I too find a change in pace helps with coming up with a writing idea when I’m stuck: doing the dishes, doing laundry and my favorite is drinking a few beers but not too many. Too many and all I want to do is sleep.

I just wait until I’m inspired and never pressure myself before then. Of course if you had deadlines to meet that would not be practical.
August 27th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Leonardo, it would be great to wait for inspiration but I do have deadlines. They are self-imposed deadlines but a deadline is a deadline. Deadlines mean a writer is constantly writing and that’s the point.

I agree, sometimes things flow so quickly and other times the flow stops. Sometimes taking a break gets the juices flowing, or reading a good book.

Dude, that’s pretty ingenious in a way! And you actually made a content out of writing without writing. Haha. Funny article but rather amusing. Good job as usual!
