Writing: Sex Won’t Get You Published Here

As the editor of the most dynamic flash fiction blog on the Internet, I reject around 98% of the erotica that is submitted to my blog for publication. I’m going to tell you why.

Hello hello hello, my brother and sister writers.  It’s the Old Soldier once again with some constant content flow for ya.  I’m full of pep even though it is almost 2:00 AM in Pittsburgh.  I’ve been tweeting all day, but I wanted to get this article in before I called it a night.

One of the reasons that I’m in such a good mood is that I just checked the number of hits my blog has gotten for the month of February.  Hold on to your hats: 11, 945.

You know the Old Soldier must be doing something right.

Actually, I know exactly what I’m doing.  It’s what any blogger does: regular posting of content that is inspiring, informative and entertaining.  And on my blog, erotica is part of the entertainment.  I wrote most of the erotica on the blog; and even though I do accept submissions, and a lot of the submissions are sexy submissions, I’ve only published one or two submitted pieces of erotica in over a two year period.  The reason is very simple.

The writers think a sex act is a story.

A sex act is just a sex act.  But a piece of fiction captures a significant moment that in some way, no matter how slight, changes something.  For me, blogging and writing go hand in hand.  In my mind I can’t decide if I’m a blogger or a writer.

But when it comes to writing a flash fiction story, there is no doubt in my mind.  If a writer wants to be published in the most dynamic blog on the Internet, that writer had better submit a story.

This is the Old Soldier blogging out of Pittsburgh.

Oh, the above photo is some of my old amateur work that I shot with a disposable camera.  It is one of the more tame photos that visitors find on my blog.  I call it, “Woman in Her Underwear.”  I think it’s pretty sexy.  I will have to tell you the story behind this photo some other time.  And it’s a good one, too.

Here are 15 of my best pieces of erotica
