Writing: Offensive Articles

Are you one of those looking for trouble spots and crying wolf, wolf? Do not go searching for everything you find offensive, do not go searching for every title that has sex, penis, vagina or pussy in it with the intention of reporting it. Just read and write what makes you comfortable.

Are we writing or surfing Triond for everything offensive?

There is a rare spectacle going on behind the scenes on this site. I go to get satisfaction to report about my delayed pay for February and meet a fresh onslaught by some writers on the so called offensive articles. I know they have a right to report anything they encounter that is offensive, I know they have a right to discuss anything that is making them lose their sleep, but surely, are these writers being sincere in their demand?

Some demands are ridiculous

I have come across ridiculous demands by some that border on sheer theatrics if not extremist fundamentalism. How can writers demand that everything that mentions sex, penis, vagina or love be struck off from Triond because it is a family site? How can we be so disturbed by the mere suggestion of sex and sexuality and go all over Triond looking for these articles and reporting them?

Triond is the least offensive of all sites that have user generated content

I have visited many different writing sites and Triond is the least offensive in my opinion. Go to Bukisa, Associated Content, iVillage, about.com, Suite101 and any that you want to mention. Visit Google and yahoo, the masters of search and even read amazing sites like Askmen among others, you can not avoid sex or sexuality.

Some words are simply unavoidable

How can you avoid the words penis, vagina or sex when they are a part of our bodies, when these are a part of life? Why should you search all over Triond in the name of reporting any title that contains these words or even suggests them? These writers are not reading, they are not writing, they have taken the role of FBI and want everything they don’t like taken out of Triond.

Do not click on anything you find disturbing!

The fact that Triond’s management seems to be listening to their screams has added them fresh impetus and now they are snooping for everything ‘offensive’ in the name of their families. My dear goodness, don’t we all have a family? The best thing to do remains not to click on what you find offensive.

Think of the remaining 199,999 users on Triond when reporting

Don’t go looking for pussies, sex, vagina or penis and start screaming you are offended. Triond is made up of a reported 200,000 users. If a mere five can make the writing lives of the remaining 199,995 a living hell because they don’t like every title out there, it would be a sad day for Triond.

If Mnof cheats about Obama’s death, search for the truth instead of reporting!

We all love this site, we all are attached so much to it, we all are addicted, the least we should do, the least we can do is rush off to get satisfaction to settle old scores. If Mnof cheats that Obama is dead, forget about it or go search the internet for any other truth. If you come across what your child or grandchild should not read, simply tell them to go and sleep because you have the authority.

Is anyone listening? Read more

I think those writers wanted to invade Triond, or they wanted to manage Triond on their own wishful ways. It is better to have a freedom to write what we wanted to write. If Triond will published, then, so be it.

I have to agree with you Jimmy. It’s not anything other than sex and our body parts and if we have problems with that then we all have issues.
I know some of people’s problems are down to the ads displayed on these articles but seriously that is not the writers fault.

    March 18th, 2011 at 11:04 pm

I agree with you Jimmy. Some people are just…forgive the term…IGNORANT ASSHOLES! I actually should be worried about this considering one of my stories which contains a sex scene. Haven’t been reported yet though and I hope I don’t get reported for writing a story.

As you know, there are many of your articles I don’t read, and plenty of others I do. We are all entitled to read what we want. If we don’t like it we should stop reading. I can’t imagine having time to read articles I don’t enjoy. You target one audience, I target another – that’s our right.

Great Post…I agree with you. You usually get an idea of what the article is about by the title. If the title suggests anything offensive, don’t read it. I have read many articles relating to sex here and they were well written posts with great information. I personally haven’t read anything that was vulgar or offensive.

I like Val, do not read what does not interest me.
    Ignore those articles.
I have to add that I find the photo very offensive Jimmy.

A very strong article with good points. I also agree that whatever you find offensive, you are not obligated to read it. What I have seen on this site are people who use vulgarity and pen names such as pussy and vagina. I don’t have any of these members on my page and I am being very selective as to who I add as friends. A very funny picture. I had to save it in my files. And yes, you’re right these words are unavoidable.

I have no problem with people writing what they want because for me it tells me what is in their heart, for as the heart is, so is the person. I am however concerned about the nudity that is invading this sight. I have not complained to anyone but I sure wish there was some regulation on that. I just find it offensive because I do not want to be forced to see other people nude bodies.

I write in Bukisa to, in fact all my faith based articles are there. I have never seen any nude pictures there so if there are, I am not aware of it. My problem is being forced to see nudity and not being warned about it. Those who feel they have a right to parade their perversion here should also consider those who do not want to be exposed to it.

    March 19th, 2011 at 1:11 am

I agree with your sentiment Jimmy, and the most powerful tool a reader can use is his or her mouse button. What would be appreciated, however, is if writers were more selective about the images they use. I like to peruse Triond whilst at work as well as at home, however the articles I choose to view at home would not always be suitable for a work computer. I can usually avoid topics that aren’t work-friendly, but sometimes I get ambushed by photos that accompany suggested articles. These photos aren’t always work safe and I have no control over whether they are displayed.

    Just my 2c worth.

good point here… “offensive’ is really relative. what’s ok for some maybe disturbing for others… maybe it would be time for triond to create another site solely for sexes, penises, vaginas and kinky stuffs. well these things really make good reading materials anyway as long as presented decently…

  • Karen Gross
    March 19th, 2011 at 5:27 am

I agree, if there are articles or sites that include offensive material, I just want them to be labeled honestly so that I can avoid them.
I don’t think it is professional, however, to include portraits of celebrities in very sensual attire, on every article just to attract readers, if the photo has nothing to do with the topic.
For example, if your topic is how to keep our men from cheating, a picture of a scantily dressed hot celebrity babe detracts from the topic.

  • lauraarual
    March 19th, 2011 at 5:42 am

  • DAN MCHARDY
    March 19th, 2011 at 9:46 am

  • lolontka
    March 19th, 2011 at 9:55 am

Hmm, i did not realise all this was going on. Its true that you don’t have to click on something if you don’t like it. Surely fewer viewings will teel the writer people do not like this subject matter.

  • lowellhenderson
    March 19th, 2011 at 11:05 am

Most everyone here shares the same opinon…we don’t have to click on things we don’t want to. I think Triond should spend more time looking for the few here that steal our work and claim it as their own. We are starting to lose good friends and writers because of this…

    March 19th, 2011 at 11:30 am

why should I feel offended when it’s not against me? Something must be wrong, I’m a very sensitive person yet I don’t feel offended easily by the posts in Triond, unless someone commented on me which hurt me, and he/she will be sorry, as I will depend on the degree of the offence, minor, I may just ignore but don’t befriend him/her, major I will scold back, either by sending message or create a poem to scold, lol.

Jimmy you bring up a valid point and I think people are over-reacting with this cyber censorship madness!!!!!!!!

Censorship is such a hot topic, people are hypocrites because one minute they are talking about how offended they are at Janet Jacksons exposed boob (wardrobe malfunction) at the Super Bowl which is supposed to be a family show, but they will say it is okay for a mother to show herself breast feeding her baby on Facebook.

Come on people get your priorities straight, if you can’t handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen.

Has anyone heard the word ” Freedom of Speech” or Freedom of Expression before????????????????

  • tanny15
    March 19th, 2011 at 4:24 pm

Great share. I do agree that one should not read the article that he think are offensive. But sometime the picture with the article title(in case these are appearing in hot articles or popular articles) are so offensive that you can’t close your eyes when reading other article on the same site.

Wow I have been angry at triond for the last two weeks just because the rejected my last article for mispelled words, the that happened to be my name, in an article. the thought of obscenities on triond never crossed my mind. Maybe because I have top of the line friends. But that complaint is so ludacrist for this website that it in itself is obscene

The best advice is to not click on if something seems offensive to us. For me, Triond is a blessing. Some of my Christian articles would be rejected,,flagged and removed elsewhere. Especially on Christian sites who only want fluff. FREEDOM is the gift of Triond, we are not forced to view what we feel is offensive. I complained once, early on but never would again.
Do we have freedom of speech or not?

  • Frederick Dewar
    March 19th, 2011 at 9:08 pm

I concur with much within this article – there does tend to be a lot of extremely prudent people who are just waiting to be annoyed/irritated/offended by stuff that others wouldn’t find tasteless at all. As for Triond though, their TOS are not exactly exact with what is or isn’t allowed. Apparently it is against their TOS to be vulgar, but how does one define vulgar in the first place.

Really good points. Why people bother clicking on an article they know they wouldn’t want to read from the title is beyond me. There are some offensive articles that may get published, but just because an article mentions sex doesn’t make it offensive and it’s a shame that these people think they have the right to object to any mention of certain words.

I love it when people are just magically offended by words. No matter the context, if you say “Penis” around someone they are magically “offended”. Same goes for “gay”. Which brings up another point, it’s always funny when I say “That’s so gay” or whatever and all the straight women are like, “that’s offensive to gay people and as such is magically offensive to me for no reason” (paraphrased, of course), when in reality, very rarely are gay people actually offended by that phrase. Every gay person I know have said “That’s so gay” or whatever when insulting something.

  • Minister Marlene

    March 20th, 2011 at 12:18 pm

It is nothing to do with being offended. A lot of those articles contain sexually explicit material and if they are featured at the bottom of my articles, they jeopardise my adsense account. I haven’t read any of yours that were highlighted at getsat, so I can’t say if they fall into that category.

  • Judy Sheldon
    March 20th, 2011 at 1:55 pm

When the words pussy licking are thrown into a title to garner reads irregardless of any and all others who are trying to write serious and scholarly content it is offensive. Had you wanted to write about oral sex that would have been an entirely different matter but the content as I understand it, as I refused to read something so titles was not even about what it stated. If you had wanted to write about oral sex the title should have been more respectful. I object to this title glaring out me on the bottom of my own content. I did not ask for it. Did not look for it and there is was. It is like the graffitti painted on a bathroom wall which the custodians quickly paint over. Offensive! I understand from others that you were advised it offended them but responded with you did not care it got you reads. You also seem not to care that it hurts our reads and our standing in the community. What teacher would have accepted this type of assignment in his/her class? Are we not striving to better ourselves? We have lost our standing in the stumble up community. What will we lose next as we continue to publish material that is not scholarly? I write at other sites and do not see such content there and even if I did I do not strive for the bottom of the list but the top. I suspect that you will delete my comment, which is your right but I wish you no ill, I am just disappointed and offended. I do not want my grandchildren and coworkers looking at my content and seeing an article about licking pussies on it.

  • Roberta (Goodselfme)
    March 20th, 2011 at 3:14 pm

I never would have read your article if someone had not directed me to it. Your title does not appeal to me, so therefore would not have visited it.What one writes about so it seems to be in their heart and minds. My joy is not yours and vice versa. Until tolerance is balanced there will be no compromise. Don’t expect me back for other commenting, but I realize you will continue writing what you want since Triond allows much ! Controversy sells and you have sold something, but I am not buying the fact that you can do and say whatever you want to me, so my limits limit your influence on me by me not reading. If garbage were cheap even if someone didn’t buy it , it would no longer be sold due to supply and demand. I would truly hope a better content would be worthy to give than obscenity. Your compromise might be to label appropriately so those wishing to avoid it could.

Those of you who say “don’t click on it” are missing the point of the original post in the forums, which, by the way, I initiated, not because I objected to the content itself, but because all of a sudden that week, the images in question, which included a fully-erect nude, split, tatooed penis, were plastered at the bottom of all my articles, most of which are either recipes or children’s crafts. I would fight to the death for anyone’s right to write on any topic they please, but there is no way it is ever appropriate for full-frontal male and female nudity and intentionally-chosen-for shcok-value titles to be plastered into articles intended for children.

I agree with Meg, it’s not so much the content itself which we can ignore, but the pictures that we can’t avoid being added to the bottom of our own stuff.

Very interesting article, thank you for sharing. It is true that if you don’t like the look of an article, you don’t have to click on it.

Greetings Jimmy. First off, if I see a title that troubles me in the wrong way then I do not go to it.

Now, like anyone else I don’t have the time to read all the articles from the news feeds. And, your article indicated you might have come across some problems so I went to your profile.

Sure you have a number of eye catching titles, but, imo, your intent is not to offend but to inform.

    Take for example this title:

    Exotic Women…

    first phrase…
Everything about them is fake. From the eyelashes to the …

I’m guessing your articles on human sexuality are to inform, though I’m sure you get numerous hits.

I’ve seen worse stuff on Triond.

Gotta run. But, imo, I see no reason as to why you are picked on, if you are being picked on. Again, though, I’ve just scanned and not really researched what’s on your profile page.

    This article offends me! (j/k!)

But seriously, I don’t understand how people can be offended by every article that mentions sex or certain body parts. Most of these types of articles are informative and are not even remotely offensive. If you don’t want to read about sex, don’t click on articles that are about sex.

I do think that writers here should post factual articles, however, rather than making things up just to get hits. Publishing hoaxes as fact just makes Triond look bad and makes it more difficult for other Triond writers to be taken seriously.

I have to say that I agree with you. Do not go looking for the offensive and you hopefully will not find it. If you happen upon an article that you find offensive STOP reading it.

Almost like some people are looking for something to be offended by and someone to help validate the offense. Did something happen to free will that nobody bothered to write about? This was an exceptionally good article. I like it, I chose to read it, I’m not offended by it and I enjoyed it. Thank you for posting it.
