Now there is a way of getting Dale Walker’s “you the reader proves Facebook sucks” off the hot content. You just have to flag it as adult content or low quality if you don’t like it, thanks to the new tool by Triond’s admin. How can they save Triond? Here are a few suggestions.
I am yet to flag any content and won’t be flagging either
Another trick has been pulled out of the hat by Triond administrators. More than 24 hours later I am yet to use the new flag it tool for obvious reasons but I know many of my friends have already embarked on flagging content they deem inappropriate and want removed from the Triond network. I am pessimistic to how this will work without malice and therefore waiting to see which content goes down. Why am I saying this?

You will be forced to read before you flag even when the title itself smells
For us to flag published content, we must open those inappropriate links, read the low quality stuff, decide that it is low quality and or that we don’t like the writer in question and then flag it. I haven’t seen the option of rating it higher like they do on reddit.com where you not only vote down but vote up as well. The spammers will actually benefit from this by getting more views and better pay before seeing their content disappear, if at all it will disappear.
Good quality may still be flagged as low quality or adult content
Good quality content is at risk of being labeled spam or adult content. I have been a victim of this before where a few grannies started crying and shedding crocodile tears without even reading the article in question. Those who hate the hot content because they don’t appear on it will flag ‘You the reader proves Facebook sucks; I hope that is the title, in a bid to get it removed from the Triond network.
Some suggestions for Triond admin
Where shall we run? To save Triond from itself, the admin must do what is being done on other sites, and this includes but isn’t limited to the following:
Double the current number of employees to 10 or 12
Already Triond has five or so employees who sit at getsatisfaction.com doing almost nothing. Adding a few more heads to help clean up the site should not be a big deal, that is if they really want to save the site.

I am looking forward to future articles. The newly gifted flag button is indeed useful for actual articles that are complete trash, but can be easily abused as you mentioned.

To be honest I haven’t flagged any articles – though I may expect a few of mine to be “flagged” just by some of the titles. It is a tough call and very open to abuse and I agree in principal that Triond cannot believe for one moment their site will get better just by adding a “Flag It” button.
There are many good writers on here – and yes, Jimmy I have seen one or two of your titles that both appeal and can see why the “grannies” cry havoc. But I agree, they HAVE NOT READ THEM. And let us be honest, will we go down the route of making enemies out of each other if people do use this “Flag It” button. It is a good measure but no the be all and end all. For one, Triond do require more staff on the editorial side. They also need to be much more transparent when answering questions, especially on what they plan to do and also on earnings and why they have dropped so drastically.
Another good article as always.

I’m waiting for mine to be flagged. I agree with you in this article as well.
By the way what happened to your site?

Finally, they took my suggestion onbaord, I have been fighting with them for this for months now and am gald Nathan pushed it forward…. He was in touch with me on email to get this done…
I agree with the categories and editors, it would allow faster publication too…
I have to tip my hat for quality, as 60% percent of stuff I have seen lack quality, not you, you have good format but off late a little slack in topics….
Well I know the dig on length, but lets put it this way, Ms. Shakespeare (Honey used to tease me with that piccy to make me smile because he could never find another and I saw the piccy come splat on his profile and I smiled — Stupid Rose!!) loves length but also loves prose just as much, it just loves to flow through me… You should experience it, it is magical and limitless when you put your heart mind and soul to it…. Capture the audience by the style and keep them intrigued and that is when you can overcome length. I have completed a 500 page book in a day because of the language and intrigue.
Those points reflect what I usually say about writing… Keep it less but make it unique, no one can touch you…
Well I cannot say that number of employees make a difference, its more the quality of staff that do. How of time they spend on their work and their dedication to the job their doing…
Thank you for this J, am sure we are ready to emabark in the prose and poetic compilation again…. Shall we???

Something completely new and wonderful…I only hope there is room to shield writers against malice aforethought!

I agree with the professional and forthright suggestions you put forth. Why are writers being called to do Trionds job? All your suggestions are sound and feasible. What will they do? Remove articles? They better give fair warning. If Triond had good judgement they would implement all the helps you’ve suggested.

If Triond is revamping the site, they ought to give us proper warning and explanation. Why would they not place a button for thumbs up to an article. Triond will now turn us against each other? I have no intention of flagging anything. What am I then, the Intratriond police? May I have a green badge and a check please? The freedom on Triond was a gift while it lasted. Now I see the tides have turned. It may be time to leap out of the waters and save…

Some good suggestions there, Jimmy, but I don’t think I shall be flagging any content. I just don’t open the ones I won’t like the sound of.
July 16th, 2011 at 11:18 am
How demoralising it will be, to be flagged for an article as “insufficent quality”, which I have tried my best but may not be to the satisfaction of certain readers. I never like the ideas of flagging articles, but I think flagging those nasty comments will be more appropriate, though deleting bad nasty or spam comments by author is possible, but by flagging those comments, those commenters will be warned and finally banned from commenting in this site further.

if you don’t like the title, don’t open it.
July 17th, 2011 at 2:17 am
J, Remember this article of mine???
http://writinghood.com/online-writing/my-viewer-statistics-on-triond-alone/
Echoes the same points you put forth….
July 17th, 2011 at 9:53 pm
It shud depend on individual..whether he wants to read an article or not..
July 18th, 2011 at 2:34 am
Did you already use the flag it button? Just asking.
Well, I guess if the topic is not really interesting don’t open it.
July 18th, 2011 at 5:54 am
Good one I agree with MarcoP
July 18th, 2011 at 7:01 am
i have to disagree with your 4th suggestion “Delay publishing in order to review what has been submitted.” i think writers who write about recent and updated topics will go against this for they will have lesser views.

Brilliant points, Jimmy. Some I hadn’t thought of. Linking yours, Pabs and Minister Marlene’s to mine! Thanks for this
July 18th, 2011 at 1:54 pm
Yes, I have joined only recently but sometimes it seems this site is geared toward people cranking out quantity over quality…
July 18th, 2011 at 3:22 pm
Why limit the length of articles? Many sites demand a minimum of 400 words.
July 18th, 2011 at 3:46 pm
I won’t be flagging anything either. I only read quality material. I also agree with Wherner5.
July 18th, 2011 at 6:54 pm
I will not be flagging. Instead of setting up a process for finding the lost goods, it is better to have a system that would prevent loss of goods! Nip it in the bud, rather than let it grow and kill others, I would say!
July 19th, 2011 at 6:56 pm
I haven’t flagged anyone yet and probably won’t be flagging anyone. If I find an article inappropriate, I won’t finish reading it. Thanks for your tips on what to do to save this site.
July 19th, 2011 at 11:06 pm
J, Thank you for your comment. Now here is my answer:

She gave me her number in May BTW…
July 20th, 2011 at 12:19 pm
Sound like a good ideas.
July 20th, 2011 at 10:37 pm
I like the flagging idea, I am not going to go on a witch hunt looking for articles, BUT if I find one, I will now have the ability to do something – in the past mostly what I have found are translated articles, often with 2-3 words that the translator missed, the grammar is always horrid and often the article makes no sense whatsoever, so good for that, hopefully it wont be abused.
August 2nd, 2011 at 8:59 am
Agree totally with Brenda. Not going to witch hunt. Also agree with the menace of s/w-spouted articles that ought to go and I am glad to have a tool for that. You have given good solutions, hope this site can save itself, yet.

Awesome read Jimmy, once again, your ideas may just come about. Wikinut is smart and has implemented your suggestions ages ago. Perhaps Triond will follow.
