Writing Gone Bad

Writers giving false information.

This is really a sad discovery. Just a complete contradiction to my previous article, “Benefits in Writing for Triond.” While I was browsing through some possible topics that I can use for my next entry. I came to read an article on Macaulay Culkin, and it says “Macaulay Culkin Dead at 30: Another Child Actor Gone Bad”. My initial reaction was disbelief on his early death and a bit sad because I thought it was for real. I grew up with this guy and have watched all his “Home Alone” movies. Reading news like this will certainly catch an attention. But here’s the catch, the news I was reading isn’t true, a big FALSE!

This is an article that is listed among the HOT CONTENT. What made this article gone so bad is that Macaulay Culkin is so alive and not dead. He just turned 30 last Thursday, August 26. I’m wondering why someone should write such horrible things. Sharing false information is bad as it is but telling somebody is dead when that person is still breathing is just so appalling. This bonehead, pardon my word, also submit an article on Lady Gaga, entitled “Pop Diva Lady Gaga Deat at 24″. If this is some kind of an experiment to test the reaction of the readers, well it’s damn too lame and selfish. Death is not some thing you talk so lightly, it is a serious matter and not to be use for amusement. And what about the friends and families of these people that are reported dead? I just can’t imagine their dissappointments or maybe anger. I’m disgusted of this cheap act to increase readership.

We are given freedom to express ourselves but we should at least be responsible, use it wisely and do not abuse it.

I totally agree with you. I do not get it when people do such thing and yes, I did not believe my eyes when I see the article on the HOT CONTENT.

Wow, it’s amazing what some people do for views.. Actually, it’s pathetic! It’s like what the gossip magazines do.. all they do is shock you into reading…
    Good share :)

I saw that one also but i realized it is not true. Just inventing stories just to get the attention of readers. Dirty play.

this is the downside of writing. one can easily make up stories to the detriment of others. wag ganun

I also read that one. For a while, I thought it was true. Good technique that the writer used but unfair to the rest of the reading public.

you’re a newbie here, Kabayan, the writer you are referring to is such a good man and a witty one. He had lots of posts with the same theme and it always land in the Hot List. kanya-kanya lang style yan, perhaps he gins lots of viewership out of these posts. sabagay, tingin ko rin medyo masama ang taste. pabayaan mo na lang. If ever, let the aggrieve party do their work.

thanks papaleng for enlightening me, after I read your post, I went to his profile and read an article where he defends himself and explain his reasons for writing as such. I, on the other hand was just expressing an opinion, yes maybe I was quick to judge, but I just don’t find homour in death or maybe I just don’t get his point. I’ll try to read his other posts and see the good man that he is. thanks kabayan!

there should really be some semblance of responsibility in our writing, whether it is the choice of topic or the way we write. it is truly difficult to separate who the more serious and more responsible are. maybe, that article was posted under fiction.

    good article, kabayan!

I saw that, opened one article and realized it was categorized under Purpleslinky so it must be a joke. And it is. I don’t know what kind of high one gets for writing obituaries hehehe. Like papaleng said, kanya-kanyang style lang yan. For that matter, I rarely open anything sa hot content. Just because it’s “hot” and popular doesn’t mean it makes sense. :-)

I\’ve been seeing that title daily on my dashboard but never bothered viewing it. I knew it was a ploy to entice readers. Such titles don\’t stand a chance in mainstream journalism. Kaya nga dito lang niya maipupublish yan, anything goes dito eh. Let him be nalang. Basta tayo uunlad. lol.

I’m afraid the titles put me off and after the first one I didn’t read any more of these posts. I don’t understand the need to write posts like this at all. Thanks for expressing your views.

I never before knew who those two supposedly dead people were. I never read any of the hot content lists either. It is easy to learn to ignore that list.

I think I know who you are talking about. I totally agree with you on that. It is indeed a pain going through articles with such disbelief and then finding out that its rubbish. The problem is that content isn’t monitored well. Anyways, Nice share!
