Writing Fundamentals: Art for Wide Readership

My profession, by nature, demands for effective writing and verbal skills. For several years in this endeavor, I discovered some basic considerations if one wants to be effective in conveying his ideas, be it in words or writing., of course taking aside the formal and academic trainings learned in schools.

I want to be very particular in the area of writing. Writing with TRIOND gave me an opportunity to develop and improve my writing skills in different areas, at my convenience as well. For those who are starting or just taking some additional insights, let may share with you my humble techniques in this field.

I considered writing not only an art but most specially a gift. As we all know, not everybody can write. Am I correct? Though a lot of us have the capacity to write and perhaps could become better writers even, but not a many are inspired to write. This is simply because writing derives from the inner core of our soul. There is great sense of satisfaction and fulfillment in writing for those who love it because writing is equated with passion.

Before you start writing it would be helpful to consider these useful tips, and I hope, you would have the heart to share these also to other beginners as well.

Set your mode to write. That means, consider basic physical preparations around you, such as, whether or not the place is convenient. I recommend that you do it during your most convenient time where you can express your ideas well. In my case, I do it after office hours or during 4th in the morning.

Consider an inspiration to write. You would be effective enough if you are inspired to write for something. It will be your motivating energy. It can be by way of a picture, a scene in the movie, headline in the newspaper or even simple objects like a twigs or dried leaf etc. There are thousands of ideas to start off if you can gain inspiration out from anything just as a picture speaks a thousand words.

The title of your work must reveal the content. Uncover the message of your content starting from its title. This can give your readers initial ideas on what you want to convey. Usually, reader’s initial attitude towards your content depends on how you draft the title. I recommend that you make it a bit intriguing to attract more readers.

If you are writing a commentary article or non-technical piece, I suggest that you use the deductive method. That is from general to specific. This is more convenient for beginners rather then the inductive method which requires higher skill in writing. This is done by starting from the general idea stated in one or two sentences and then further elucidated through specific examples.

Be simple but artistic. You don’t have to use unfamiliar words to empress your readers. Your main consideration is to convey ideas. You are measured on how much readers understand your work, not on how technical it appeared. Proper use of adjectives and adverbs may add color to your write-ups.

Most importantly, put it in mind that you write not primarily for money but because of that unstopping urge persistently hounding your soul to release it with joy overflowing.
