Are you considering writing online and are not sure if you should attempt to venture into creating your own blog or writing for an online publisher? Well this articles will help you weigh the pros and cons of each option.
The Need for Content
The effects of the economic crisis are looming everywhere and we are all feeling the pinch. Nevertheless, it seems a particularly promising time for writers, particularly for those who dear to venture into the world of online writing. This is due in large part to the following:
Many online writers may choose to write content for various web entities including online content publishers (such as Triond, Bukisa, Xomba etc) as a way of capitalizing on this market demand for talented writers and creative content, expanding horizons and expertise, garnering experience and importantly earning some extra funds.
There are those “online writers” who prefer yet to operate their own writing websites/blogs as a more viable option. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Some writers aim to capitalize on both markets and do both. As with all things, there are pros and cons to choosing any of the three options.
Blogging – Maintaining Your Own Blog
The main drawback with having successful blog lies in its maintenance which goes far beyond producing regular articles and extends to maintaining, promoting and driving traffic to the particular website. Earnings to be had however if one can create and maintain a successful blog can be significant. On the other hand, income may not be readily forthcoming.
Writing for an Established Publisher

If deciding to go with an online publisher one can focus solely on your articles without the added pressure of site/blog maintenance. However, earnings may be minimal in comparison to what can be earned potentially from a successful blog. Earnings though minimal are however immediately forthcoming.
Writing for an Established Publisher and Your Own Blog
In light of the pros and cons of either writing for and established publisher or one’s own blog, there are those among us who opt to try our hands at both options.
This can be one way of many writers trying to have their cake and eat it too. However, if one does not of have the help of other writers to aid in article production for either of the two or possibly both options, the results may not turn out the way one may expect. Often times, one option may suffer in favour of the other. Generally, the one that brings in more revenue will be the surviving option (check out Guy Hogan’s articles The Money Hungry Blogger, My Blog Just Past 18,000 Hits, When Does your Personal Blog Become Your Business Blog and My Personal Blog Sent Hundreds of Hits to my Triond Content in June that deal with this particular issue).
Before choosing any option in the world of online writing, it is important to consider all the advantages and disadvantages of each in light of what you can handle – deciding whether one or the other or a mixture of all options is best.
Happy and successful writing.

Well, as you know I have insight into both options. Your article certainly touches on the pros and cons of any decision a writer makes. As you point out it all comes down to the quality and quantity of the content. And a real commitment takes a great deal of time.
Thank you for the exposure you’ve given my work.
