Writing for a Cause

Writing for money or writing for a cause? Which is good?

Among writers, there are many varieties. Most of them, especially, the freelance writers, write for money to meet their monthly bills.

Many writers write for a particular cause. You can find a large number of blogs and sites by these authors espousing causes like abolishing nuclear weapons, child abuse, violence on women etc.

Many writers, through their writings conduct awareness campaigns on issues such as cancer, environment protection, global warming, political problems, organ donation, literacy, rights for handicapped persons, etc.

And those writing for causes excellently reach out to people around the world. They encourage people  to do good, and encourage them to act for causes. They also make many people to become philanthropists donating money for causes.

They use many forms like articles, booklets, speeches, letters to the editor, Op Ed articles, essays, field reporting, newsletters, press releases, drafting and posting petitions online, pamphlets and books.

Although writing for non-profit, many maintain standards in their writing. They are serious in selecting facts and figures. Keeping accuracy makes them credible.

The internet has opened many ways to educate, inform and organize the people for good causes. The e-activism and e-protesting are becoming extremely effective methods. Many grassroots political movements have also emerged through the social networking sites.

So, if a writer is interested in writing for a cause, there are number of opportunities. For those writers who depend upon writing for their livelihoods, earning money is primary goal. However they can combine both, simultaneously writing for money and a cause. They can use the traditional freelance markets and write about the people’s causes. The popular magazines are still the effective instruments to propagate ideals and causes.
