Writers Block: What’s That?

Don’t just sit there. There has to be something on your mind.

O.K. You just finished writing an article on a truly favorite topic and now you’re basking in all of your glory. Moments from now you’ll be thinking , “How can I top that. That was awesome.” Not to worry. The wheels are always spinning, wheather you realize it or not. Staring blankly into your computer monitor isn’t usually going to give you the next greatest idea you’ve ever had. There must have been some life experiences that have driven you to where you are today. And they are only uninteresting if you make them uninteresting. There are things that can be done to prevent writers block.

  1. Everyday everybody has some sort of experiences that create emotions. Wheather its happy or sad, that emotion can be translated into words to express how we feel. Lets concentrate on the “happy” because that’s more fun. Did something happen to you today that put a smile on your face. Probably. Just make note of it or jot it down. There are alot of different tangents that one can go off on just on that one simple thing. It might be a topic like “jokes” or their origins. That one little experience that put a smile on your face might lead you to describe the wonderful joy of being a parent or possibly the barbecue you went to with your friends last weekend. Remember, any and all experiences in life can be discussed, be written down, and made interesting.
  2. When writers block sets in, get up and take a break. What works for me is taking a little walk and experiencing the joys of the outdoors. As long as I pay attention to the things going on around me, I know that I’m being constantly bombarded with things to write about. Things like the car that just whizzed by me, the different types of birds around me, or the various landscape techniques my neighbors have used to decorate their lawns just to name a few.

Just remember to enjoy life and capture your life experiences.
