Writers Block

What to do when there’s writer’s block. Ideas for brainstorming and coming up with articles to write.

I have been writing for about 5 years now, but of course I still have writer’s block occasionally. The funny thing is, I always have something to say about anything and everything, however translating that into a clear and concise article is a different story. That and the fact too, that just because I have something to say, doesn’t mean it will be anything that any one else would what to read about.

So, at the times when writer’s block strikes, the brainstorming begins on trying to think about what to write about? What do I feel like writing about? What do I know? What am I interested in? All these things go through my mind and in some instances I think stress me out more. However, I have come up with a few ways to knock out writer’s block and start writing again.

Search My Magazines:

I have begun searching magazines for inspiration. Whether they are my craft mags or the parenting ones that I read, looking through subjects that interest me and to also find inspiration in the pages. Reminding me of why I like doing crafts or crafts that I have forgotten about or forgot I knew how to do. Sometimes I read them also to see what ideas spark when I look through them, maybe an add that I like or a new piece of technology that has come out. Anything to make me think and also take my mind off of the writer’s block for awhile.

Going Through My Books:

I love books and I love reading. I have books on everything and have read every one of them and they have turned into an invaluable resource for references when writing and to come up with ideas on what to write about. Such as projects I want to complete or a painting technique that I enjoyed. Or even some of my spiritual and enlightenment books that brought me peace in tough times that I want to share with others. I have a library at home, I put it to good use.

Leave The House:

When I can, I leave the house to work. I go to a cafe or a bar even that has wireless access and work there instead. Changing the environment alone has done wonders for coming up with things to write about and removing the writer’s block. I like being outside as well, so many times, just going outside and sitting on my patio to work instead while my kids play is all I need to get moving again.

Search The Question Sites:

I do look up keywords and do searches on-line to see what people are looking to read or learn about. I go through sites like Yahoo and Ask to see what people are posting questions about. It’s amazing what people ask about and the number of topics you realize you can write on when you see the questions that are posted. Everything from cooking to crafts or school work to witch craft and sports. The topics that can be created from the posts are numerous and immediately give me ideas on what to write and topics to consider.

These are the most common ways I come up with ideas. With these, I also work out to get the blood flowing again, put on the History or Discovery Channel for a few minutes since there is always something on there that can usually peak my interest and I have had a beer and taken a deep breath and let it go for awhile as well.  Either way, luckily writer’s block doesn’t last long and I am on my way again to writing like crazy.
