Improve your writing

Write Article at Ease, But, with Seriousness

Article writing is easy. Using idioms, humour and proverbs make the article lively. Pre planning is not necessary. Writing lengthy article is desirable because it makes editing easier. In the case the writer presenting a well know idea, the presentation style may be fresh to attract readers.

Is there a thing namely  writing talent?  Yes. Certainly, IT IS.  Now the hundred dollar question is  how do you know that writing talent exists in some people? The answer seems too simple, but true: The answer is not ‘the ones who write  have writing talent by birth’, but, ‘the ones who start to write can exhibit the world that   a talent namely writing  does exist’!

Keep on writing and you will become writer. One simple example. Keep on reading and you will  become reader.

After writing anything- that may be fiction, article, virtually anything,  become reviewer of your own writing.  Don’t show your article to anybody without making thorough  scrutiny. While you are writing you are mere writer.  While reviewing you are having different avatar – that is of  reviewer. Don’t excuse yourself for your mistakes.

In the old days, essay writing was taught in boring style. First, list the hints. Without verbs. Try to  create sentence patterns  depending on the outlines you have already prepared. Then add some spice, say, idioms. If possible split lengthy stuff in to paragraphs.

But actually writing is like living. While living we do not plan for everything, do we?  Simply start writing, that’s all.  Sit in front of  computer. Let your fingers dance on keyboard. Any awkward sentences or useless series of  words will do. Don’t think too much. As much as possible fill the space with more and more words. Yes you read right. I have not said sentences, but words. While editing(read scrutinizing) mercilessly cut  off  the unnecessary words. Shape and reshape. If the article are lengthy, editing is easier.

Idioms are important. But  do not forget that your reader can not digest too much idioms. It is more true regarding the non-English-speaking people.

Now, as you have already observed in the title of this article, I am going to give you eight  hints for  your growth as a writer.

1.      Add some humour . But beware. The theme shall not be swerved  because of it.

2.      Some times it is inevitable to use big dictionary words when the ordinary words don’t suffice. But try to make explanations in the form of  dialogue(not in the form of notes)  so that by the context the readers may understand the meaning.

3.      While quoting from others don’t insert your opinions. After the completion of quoting you can have your say.

4.      Even though the ideas you are submitting are old or  well known, you can  alter the style of presentation to appear them fresh.

5.      Thought provoking stuff is important. Shallow opinions or  useless statements (like those of politicians) compel the readers to stop reading your article.

6.      You may use proverbs. But don’t give impression  that you have written the article to exhibit your mastery over proverbs. After all, you are writing an article and not creating the dictionary  of proverbs.

7.     As much as possible, try to create tight relationship between your article and the title.

The readers shall have crystal clear picture the moment they gaze the title of your article. Observe news  papers attentively. How the writers of the news give titles, how they use idioms in even titles, how the split the paragraphs, and how they use the verbs – you have to observe everything.

Article writing is very easy. But at the same time this easy thing shall be taken very seriously.
