Words Writers Should Not Use

Useless words are common words and phrases that does not mean anything or give emphasis.

Generally is one of these words that does not mean anything and should be avoided when writing. Following is a listing of other useless words for writers:

  1. “Completely finished” are two words that show redundancy and should never be used together
  2. “Along the lines of” is a phrase that is useless for writers
  3. “End result” is redundant and these two words should not be used together
  4. “As of this time,” a phrase heard from news reporter is useless words that one may think serve as an introduction when one is not needed
  5. “Period of time” is a useless phrase and just takes up place in a written report or broadcast
  6. “On the part of” is a useless phrase with no substance. The phrase doe not tell the reader anything.
  7. “Consensus of opinion” gives the speaker or writer a great beginning with the word consensus, but no clarity of meaning
