Why Do I Do It?

This column offers a little explanation of why some of us choose to work online.

Ever wonder why working online has such a strong appeal to so very many people? Is it because the possibility of easy riches seem to be close at hand or maybe the ole “work your own hours” bit hits us right where we live. There are probably as many reasons we hope to succeed in this type of business as there businesses out there. While I’m not sure exactly what your reason may be If you’ll let me I’ll share with you mine.

I’ve always been kind a what you’d call a free spirit. I like to roam about the Southeast on my Harley and see all the cool things that I’ve never seen before. Being a part time writer this type of hobby allows me to constantly go and search out new and wonderful places and people in which to write about. I have found covered bridges, giant peaches, beautiful mountain streams and waterfalls and have been able to meet countless people of the most interesting variety.

Armed with my trusty laptop you may find me writing away at the local Dairy Queen having a Blizzard or leaned against the wall of a Motel 6 somewhere…who knows. The really cool thing is not having to work {write} in the same place each day if I choose not to. My office can be on the bank of a river, a bench in a shopping mall or maybe even under a nice shade tree in a city park in your town. This type of work environment is as they say on TV “priceless”. Not only is the environment cool but I am constantly bombarded with fresh ideas to write about. You simply never know who or what you may run into as you travel from place to place.

Not long ago on one of my little journeys I came upon something I hadn’t seen in many years…a full service gas station. Talk about something that we could use more of…now this is it. This filling station came complete with a little old man who had to be the most friendly person on the planet. While my buddy and myself were on motorcycles and didn’t need much help we both watched in awe as the attendant waited on his customers. He checked oil, washed windshields, checked air pressure in tires and yeah he even pumped the gas.

Anyone who wishes to write for a living or at least a profitable hobby can easily find fresh material on a daily basis by simply paying attention to what goes on around them. You don’t have to take trips all over such as I do but just watch what goes on the next time you visit your local Wal-Mart or grocery store. You will be amazed at what you will see when you are actually looking for it.
