Some fact on why poets and fiction writers might not get much earnings on their on line work.
Three months and over a hundred articles on Triond and Helium have made things clear for me: creative writings do not earn much.
Why? You might publish a poem and do not get a penny from it.
Fact is people who look for on line writings are usually looking for informative text and when they need entertainment, they might still be looking for it in a bookstore.
This can be an on line bookstore or a print on demand, but I notice you may write brilliant poems, get views when it is newly published, but after a while it barely gets traffic and will not earn.
Should this mean you should not publish your poems or short stories on line?
Surely not, because they can be a great add to your portfolio and interested publishers are people that might hire you, will most likely get a better view of what you are capable of.
Also it might be great promotion for your work. If you like to self publish a bundle of poems, you might refer to those on line and people might know what to expect before buying.
It is like playing your song on the radio or giving away a free mp3 sample. People who will love your work might read it for free on line and when they like it they might buy a printed book.
So I would not say that it is useless to publish creative writing. Informative writing will earn you more money on line, but creative writings might grant you more recognition and might draw attention to publication.

Its sad that creativity is not valued in our society on the whole.. not just on line.
I paint.. but yet people do not want to pay an artist for their time or supplies, rather they would prefer to buy a cheap print.
this is my art

It depends. I write modeling articles and the articles do have a decent following over time. I have my personal subscriber list of people who opt to read my articles. I guess that really helps a lot.
