The source of all ideas is the inspiration. You can be watching TV, playing a game with your family, or just walking down a quiet street to become inspired. It can be extremely helpful to carry around a small notebook in your pocket or whatever and just write down inspiring scenes, sentences, or even a blurb from a phone conversation. Writer’s block, watch out!

I read a book about global warming, and a few months later thought about it, instigating my article Go Green: 10 Easy Ways to Help the Environment. I sat by a window watching rain drip down the windows, becomes the cause later that night for Rainy Days. My dad was deployed to Afghanistan, this inspired War. Anything and everything can become an inspiration.

Another good way to be inspired is to read a good book. Read about things that interest you. It really doesn’t have to be a book; magazines, newspapers, even online articles such as this one will do. Anything that might jump start your ideas again and pull the plug on the evil writer’s block. Here are some good poems to start you off:

Find somewhere peaceful where you can just let your mind wander. Some of the most inspiring thoughts come when you’re alone in a peaceful place. Whether you take a walk or just lounge in your room, it doesn’t matter as long as it’s quiet and peaceful for you.

Use Your Imagination

Imagination is key to ridding of writer’s block. It is pretty much impossible to be a writer without having an imagination. No, let me restate that. It is impossible to be a writer without having an imagination. I’m not saying you have to live in an imaginary world with pink fairies called Tiddlywinks or anything drastic, just a simple imagination that can turn a thought or two into an entire article, poem, or short story.

So Here’s the Deal

In order to get rid of writer’s block and jump start your imagination:

  • Get inspired: do what it takes to get your mind on the task – writing
  • Read a good book: read about the things you love to make you more knowledgeable and get the ideas growing
  • Take a walk: find somewhere quiet and peaceful to relax and to brainstorm
  • Use your imagination: take an ordinary thought, phrase, or conversation and turn it into an article. Or, you can think of great ways to expand on other articles you’ve already written!
