In this information age where information can be transferred in a blink of an eye, readings are far too many that an average person reads at least one written article in a day. Whether you’re a bookworm, an occasional reader or someone whose only encounter with written articles is through the brochures or leaflets given out on mall entrances, you will appreciate a well-composed piece of writing when you see one.

Good articles naturally come from good writers but what are the factors that make a writer stand out from the rest?

First, the writer should be knowledgeable about what he’s writing. You can’t share what you do not have and, naturally, anyone who attempts to write about something that he’s ignorant of will come up with pieces of trash that will either bore his readers or at worst, irate them. Before writing, a good writer makes sure that he had researched the topic well or know a lot about it that he can write just based on his experience or expertise.

The content of the article is as important as the writer’s fluency with the language he’s using. A message or idea, no matter how thought-provoking, inspiring or great, cannot be relayed to the readers without a good vocabulary and articulateness. The writer’s ability to formulate written texts that will convey the message that he wants to share plays a big role in good writing.

Having a good content and deep vocabulary is almost half the job. In almost every communication, the way you convey your message affects how your readers react to it. A great writing style considers the audience and the purpose of the piece. For example, precise descriptions are preferred over figures of speech in scholarly writing, as compared to fiction writing.

Lastly, the writer should have passion. Writing is a way of expressing one’s self and is even considered as an art. If a writer’s flame for writing stops burning, the articles loses it’s life. Remember, an article written without passion is like a bland meal: tasteless and plain.
