How important are the comments of fellow writers in our write-ups? They are very important because they serve as endorsements that the material is worth reading. An article is not ready for promotion outside of Triond if it does not have any comment from a Triond writer.

Yesterday I wrote an article about Amorphophallus paeoniifolius. It was written for a specific audience - those who are based in or those who have roots from San Roque, Northern Samar, Philippines. I knew that the article would be an instant hit among my townmates because it is about a delicacy that is part of my town’s culture.
True enough, the article is doing well and is being promoted on Facebook by my friends and by my friends’ friends. The readers are not only coming from the Philippines, but there are readers from countries with high Gross Domestic Product. In case you do not know what I am talking about, please check the latest announcement from Triond on your dashboards.
Anyway, I did not promote the article right away after its publication. I waited for at least 5 comments from fellow Triond writers before I started promoting it. I always do that with my articles. I knew that particular article is something that might not appeal to Triond writers, but I waited until I got my first 5 comments.

I found some excellent materials from Triond’s CONTENT that are commentless. They are lonely posts that need to be reviewed (That is the writer’s lookout and there are those who obviously think that their posts can survive on their own even without being reviewed by other Triond writers).
Usually, a reader is not encouraged to read further if an article has been published more than one year and that article does not have a single comment. It suggests one thing – the article is sloppy.
Comments are part of an article’s package. They back up the credibility of the material and that of the writer.

Your comments are definitely worth thinking about. And, thanks for pointing out the location graph, I hadn’t picked up that it was there. That too is a fascinating tool! Good work,. And, I did enjoy the article about your local delicacy and think I commented. Don’t restrict yourself to one audience!

You have made a lot of good points. I have noticed some very well written articles that have no comments. Often this is because the writers haven’t built up a network of friends yet. We shouldmake an effort to read their work. A very good post.

What you mentioned is true.Comments does support the life an article. Another testament that giving good comments does help our fellow writers here to succeed.
October 26th, 2010 at 6:06 am
Well, this sure got a lot of comments already
Am I late for the party? Seriously, you are right. An article without a single comment seems to be a very forlorn article. It may have views but one may think why it did not even merit a single comment.

comments can make the articles to have a good quality based on the feed back of others .. its really important

I don’t think it is necessary to get five comments first before promoting your article.
But if it works for you, then continue doing it.
Sometimes, a high-traffic article will have no comments.

I still believe that if an article offers valuable information and makes sense then comments will really come in second. That’s just my opinion.
Better to have few but meaningful comments in the article, that means they took time to really read the content.
Of course, if the visitors chose to leave a very short one, that’s their prerogative. But generally, placing a meaningful comment is what will make them really a standout especially if they are also Triond members.
Have a great day!

Interesting to read. If I were to decide to do only that part of promotional activity that gives the maximum and lasting benefit, then it won’t be getting comments from fellow writers or even target audience.
October 30th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
I agree with you about comments to a certain extent. However I have seen comments like great share! on many articles that are just quite frankly in my opinion a load of rubbish. so sometimes as much as it is great to get comments, sometimes people do just leave comments on every single piece of work they see especially on ones they think are going to be popular so they can increase their popularity.

Comments and even just a smiley can lift a writer’s writing spirit. It’s a motivation to write and write.

Comments whether to praise or to criticise your work is really needed for the author to know what are his strenghts and weaknesses so he can work on that and improve it. AJ was right, it’s the writer’s motivation.

Well written article with some very good points.
I believe that both quality writing and promotion are needed
for your article to be widely read. I don’t think you could accomplish many views with even the best article alone.
I guess the trick is to find a fine balance between the two

You are quite right. The comments of fellow Triond writers are very useful as they motivate and inspire us. Thanks for sharing.
