University Activity 11.2

This is a follow on from the splicing the strands activity 11.1.

The hotel room was soon crowded with people getting ready.  The music in the background relaxed the atmosphere somewhat although there was definite tension showing in the creases of the young woman’s brow.

                ‘What’s wrong?’

‘The flowers should have been here over an hour ago.’

‘There’s plenty of time yet.  Have you had a shower, Sarah’s waiting to do your hair as well don’t forget.’

‘I know, let me just phone down to reception and check on the flowers first.’

‘I can do that.  Go on, shoe.’  Heather waved her arms in the direction of the bathroom.

                ‘But…’

‘I’ll do it now.’ Heather cut her off.  ‘In fact, have a bath, relax for a while.’  The door closed.  ‘Like that’s gonna’ happen.’

A knock on the door pulled Heather away from the bathroom and when she opened it, a young man in a suit walked straight in.

                ‘How is she?’

It was his way of an opening in a room full of women he didn’t particularly know.

‘She’s just gone in the bathroom to get ready.  She’s done nothing but stress out.  The flowers are the latest.’

‘Oh they’ve just arrived in reception.  They’re bringing in them up now.’

‘Thank god for that.  How’s Andrew?’

                ‘He’s okay.  He’s downstairs waiting.’

The photographer finished taking pictures outside the room and they bundled up into the elevator.

                ‘Watch my dress dad.’

‘Sorry.’  He paused.  ‘Are you okay?’

‘Nervous, you?’

‘You’ll be fine.’  He patted her hand.

She walked down the aisle clinging to her dad’s hand.  The long dress floated around her feet, neither a help nor hindrance.  A quick kiss on the cheek and her hand was passed between the two men.

                ‘You look lovely.’
