My attempts at creating independent income.
Recently, I became one of many whose unemployment benefits ran dry. It’s been a rather momentous year for me. I’ve graduated from school in Civil Engineering, gotten married, and subsequently struggled like mad to find work in my field, despite solid, relevant work experience and the proper degree. Since unemployment has ended for me and I’ve joined the ranks of the 99′ers, my focus has shifted from sending out resumes all day to spending a little time on the resume search and using the majority of the day’s hours attempting to build some income.
I began by writing for a site where I am paid a set fee per word where assignments are available on a wide array of topics. I’m avoiding naming the site in this article because I’m unsure about the rules here regarding such matters. While I can guarantee a certain level of income there by writing a certain amount, I am seeking other means of generating passive revenue which should effectively increase my hourly rate over time.
As it stands now, I average between $9-$12/hour while actively writing. While this helps pay the bills, things could certainly be better. I’ll keep chronicling my experiences and results. Anyone out there more experienced or successful than myself can feel free to give me any advice you may have. I’m always receptive to new ideas. Until next time, folks…
