There are types of comment that famous bloggers really warn you not to do. Even if they are on Triond, where viewership matters, I would still encourage you not to do those.
1) Linking without reason
Yep, this is the nightmare. Relevant links such as similar posts on the same subjects are appreciated but promotion for promotion’s sake drives everyone mad. If you are online and writing or have a business, you do have lot of stuff to promote and everyone gets it. But if you give a tobacco company promotion link to a post on a movie review, your comment gets deleted. And yes, I am speaking from experience.
2) Nice post/article.
It seems harmless and nice but it most often means that the comment came from a person who didn’t read your stuff. It is so generic, it can be posted on every post. Well, I am guessing it is appreciated more on Triond- since the person at least opened your page but….that’ s it…If you are on Triond, you are here because you are a writer. Writing is about self-expression. So make it specific.
So: Read the article, and then comment by showing you read. This always makes the writer feel better. You don’t have to agree, but you have to appreciate the effort put there.
I know these are so simple but I see it everywhere on Triond and I know a lot of people are having these comments on their posts. So I just wanted to share.

I hate linking comment as well but as for the ‘Nice Article’ comment, I don’t think I hate it completely but I hate those who NEVER comment anything else except ‘Nice Article’ or other similar short comment just to make his or her article read back by the person that he commented on.
There are others too, however, who post a ‘Nice Article’ comment to appreciate and encourage another writer. He or she cannot say anything else because the current article that they read is not really their field to comment on. This kind of writer usually here not for money but just for fun and experience. They will put some meaningful comment if the article is in their field.
Of course, the best person is the one who leave some encouraging comment that’s not too short even he doesn’t really into the article he currently commented on. That’s what I think, many blogger probably won’t agree with me.
Well said!

Thanks for such an in-depth comment, I appreciate it and totally agree with your last paragraph!
“Nice article” still is a bad idea for a comment- even if the person has read it- there is a chance the author will not be able to decide whether it is a genuine one.
Even the field is not related, you can still quote from the article and say why you agree or disagree.

Generic comments don’t bother me. I’m just happy to get the hit. And I appreciate the more in-depth comments. I think my casual attitude toward comments causes me less stress. Writing, or whether trying to write well, is stressful enough.
January 15th, 2010 at 10:02 am
I am always happy to get a response. Many times I like the article and I write, Good job or good article and I am off to read another article. Just the way it is”
January 15th, 2010 at 10:18 am
Nice post.
Just kidding. You’re right, of course. I never follow up on an enclosed link. I have an inbox if someone want’s to sell me something or thinks I might enjoy a post. The comment slot is for commenting.
January 15th, 2010 at 10:19 am
@Guy- you are right. Writing can be stressful but it is also a lot of fun. So I just really enjoy it when someone has taken the time to read it through and share their thoughts.
@GWitt. Thanks for this long one, then ; ) My advice/tips aren’t just for Triond, though. If you want to be noticed by others, it would be better to put an effort.
In Triond, traffic is crucial so any comment is better than no comment at all, of course. But hey, who doesn’t enjoy different comments ?
January 15th, 2010 at 10:20 am
some of the comments make me laugh, especially the ones where they write nice poem when you just wrote about breast cancer! I can see where you are coming from but at least they came to your page.
January 15th, 2010 at 11:34 am
Lilyrose, yes I appreciate the viewership but I can’t help that I love readership even more
Nice poem? To breast cancer article? Things are more drastic than I thought : D
January 15th, 2010 at 12:30 pm
I write comments on articles I can relate with. “nice post/ article” is over use. I understand how you feel but as for me, I am just happy that they took the time to click on my article. We are all here to help each other out
January 15th, 2010 at 12:33 pm

As you know I agree wholeheartedly – that still doesn’t mean I could resist cheekily combining points one and two
Nice “P-article”!

WHEN U ASK FOR A COMMENT U HAVE TO BE PREPARED FOR THE WORST FLATTERY IS COMMON
The promised Night
It will be a longer one,
If tonight is that night
For which you have waited
All those nights
Till tonight.
So till she comes
On the promised nite
Read this one tonight.
Do You Read Me
Here I’ve learnt
Read me twice
I’ll read you once
My first 100 poems
None read.
Now they all read
What I post at once
2010 poems in all

Of your own self

Both sexes to allure

Very interesting write here, though the issue on point no. 2, has been discussing many times in Triond.
Most of the time, I can feel the sincerity of the comments from people. I agree with 8shei8 that when people comment on ours, means they are there to suppport us. For my case, when I read articles which I am lost of words for comments (don’t understand, not-related etc), I usually skip. Sometimes I get carried away and added on some irrelevant points, just to tease the writers, whom I have made friends with…I hope they don’t mind.
January 15th, 2010 at 9:38 pm
Nice article. Just kidding! I know what you mean, sure hits help income a tad but sincerity has it’s value, especially since we put ourselves out there to test the waters among other writers and critique and comments can be helpful for us to develop further in our craft.
January 15th, 2010 at 10:40 pm
Disagree. As one whom reads a few hundred articles daily, a “smilie face” is my nod of approval. Think of it as a ‘high-5′ as I’m heading out the door…
January 15th, 2010 at 11:57 pm
I have to disagree with part of your article. I don’t like links added myself but sometimes I only have time for a short comment. I try very hard to keep up with my friends, I grab a minute here and there and time is usually my problem. If I really like your post and I have more time you get a longer comment. If my comment is short, then I am either short on time or the article was not interesting to me. But the thing is I did read it and I am supporting my friends. As you can see I found this article of interest and I have some time tonight.
January 16th, 2010 at 7:44 am
@thestickman: I am glad you disagree. You read it and I am very happy about this!! You can put a smiley face whenever you feel like it. But if all you do is put one emoticon- everywhere- then I question your motives. So thanks for disagreeing. You just showed me you are not commenting like number 1&2 ; )
@PR Mace: Relevancy is great. If I am writing on blogging, anything on blogging goes. So link away. I also click on links on other people’s articles- to support their previous work as well.
But time is a problem for everyone. People on Triond all have jobs and/or students. Some are full-time writers/bloggers like me. So I am my own writer/editor/marketer/researcher and assistant. But still, I try to add value to people. When you don’t have time, it is so OK to just click for support. And when you do have time, some variety and thoughtfulness goes a long way. Like your comment here ; )
@Bo: You know I made the same nice article than ha ha I’m kidding joke on someone too. Comes with the territory; ) If we are networking, let’s make good use of it. It is great to produce hits. But it is even better to find more people to share more stuff with
@Starpisces: Thank you for the effort in your comment. I realize it is a bit controversial but I was being sincere- plus, it is not just my opinion. We are all writers, bloggers or both- and some of us write outside Triond- for people who already have a lot traffic. Then value becomes key. I don’t mind clicks. Hell, especially as friends, I am all for clicking for clicking’s sake. But if we did read it, why not speak our minds ; )
@Lovely Honey:I am not asking for flattery or criticism, though both are fine. What I am asking for and appreciating are thoughts.
@Ken: Why not click on links if they are not spam? you might end up with useful information.
January 16th, 2010 at 8:52 am
You are absolutely right on this one. But I have to admit I sometimes like an article and do not have the inspiration on what to say than just that I liked it and that it was a great article.
So I sometimes dare to write a short thing like “well written” or “good article” to save time on commenting other articles I like to read. I am also on other sites beside Triond and do not always have time for replies like this.
I do dare to link to other relevant posts, that might explain some of the things I am writing about, since I do not always feel like retyping all I did so far.
January 16th, 2010 at 9:54 am
Comments are just that, and as writers we have the choice to respond to them or ignore them.
January 16th, 2010 at 3:14 pm
@Martine: Yeah, I have my own blog and I write on Bukisa.
I also have other other gigs so I know time is an issue. But if I
don’t have time to read or comment, I come back to it later. It is
bad that I usually have something to say ; )
@valmnz: You can ignore them. But then again, I am giving advice on
how not to be ignored.
January 16th, 2010 at 5:16 pm
lol. well true. i know when readers read my article because the comments are loaded with contracdictions, emotive language and sometimes downright disrespect. when members of trion comment on an article and have read it i know because they always make inferences from the article. i am just glad when anyone comments on my article but i do believe that good post/article is sometimes overused. on the other hand sometimes i do read articles and i am unable to write a comment due to being press for time so i simply put very informative or any other term. just to let the person know that i viewed their page and read thie work. leaving comment means i give them my support.
January 17th, 2010 at 4:43 pm
@crsytal: thanks for the support : ) It is great when someone reads. You just feel so happy. Of course we love clicks, but being read is something else all together.
January 18th, 2010 at 7:30 am
I can’t say I’m too worried about the comments people leave. Zoey, I love writing about anything and everything. If people read my article and leave a comment (no matter what they say) I’m ecstatic. I’m not here for the money or just so I can delve who has read my work and and who hasn’t. I’m here to share with others:)
January 18th, 2010 at 2:34 pm
Umm.. Nice article.. post
Would you be so kind to read my new article and comment it?! But wait… I don’t have any new articles since December…
LOL
January 19th, 2010 at 4:11 pm
@Mila: That’ s exactly my point. Comments don’t make you money, clicks do. So if someone is taking the time to comment, they can take a couple of more seconds so they will contribute more. ; )
@ fashion girl: Don’t worry, I comment on every article of friends I find- one/two articles at a time ; ) Date doesn’t matter. In fact the older the better, so they don’t get buried.
January 19th, 2010 at 5:26 pm
I agree that clicks make money, but clicks that forward to other clicks because of good content make even more money. Meaningless comments (good one, like it, interesting) are not going to show the quality of an article, and neither are they going to give the author any idea what they did well or what they did badly. I for one vote for meaningful comments. Well wrtten, concise and extremely pertinent article Zoey, thanks. Aldrin

I too love getting detailed comments for the articles that I write, but at times, I feel happy when I just see a “Nice post” or “great article” or “Thnx for the share” type of comments as I know they’ve atleast had a look and will definitely come back again to get a detailed view.
January 20th, 2010 at 8:08 am
You said very true. Comments and feedbacks must be given after going through the entire information..
January 21st, 2010 at 1:04 am
Nice post, now dont get perturbed for I’ve genuinely read it.An apt comment does make a difference.
January 21st, 2010 at 9:01 am
Well, I have been researching about blogging for a long time and as I said, take my advice when you want to establish a relationship with the author.I thank everyone for their comments and I am enjoying the popularity of the article.
I really appreciate the participation. : )
January 21st, 2010 at 9:20 am
haha .. nice …
happens all the time …. nice , tops the list of most luke warm comments … lol
January 22nd, 2010 at 2:39 pm
@recklessrealist: I know- but sometimes it is so impersonally lukewarm
But when I see nothing but nice or well written, I just want to invite the people for a session of creative writing.: D
March 12th, 2010 at 10:54 am
thanks for sharing.
nah im kidding
i hate it when people say that kind of thing in comments… i enjoyed reading this article and i hope it makes some impact on all those unrelated commenters out there…
March 27th, 2010 at 6:27 am
So this is where triond writers are heading. After realizing that they cannot earn money worth the writing, now they worry about the commenters than trying to figure out any best things to do.
April 8th, 2010 at 3:09 pm
I’m probably one of the most annoying members on triond!
December 9th, 2010 at 1:39 am
I agree a thousand fold Zoey but I also agree with Guy Hogan in that you cant let it bother you. But i do find it funny that I have 5 or 6 “friends” on Triond that will only comment with great post or nice article everytime they leave a comment. They can at least read some of my articles and leave a better comment on occasion but then again I am satisfied with my $.01 earned so whatever.
