Triond has recently introduced a flag button feature to report inappropriate and offensive content. Is this new feature good or bad for the Triond writers? Can this be the first step to improve the quality of Triond articles? How do Triond writers like this new option? Please read more…….
So, why did Triond introduce flag button? Triond was badly hit by the recent quality change updates by Google. Traffic to Triond from Google dropped quite heavily after the Google’s panda updates. Subsequently all Triond writers’ earnings went down significantly. Frustrated Triond writers wanted Triond to make the necessary changes immediately to restore its rankings with Google and improve Triond writers’ earnings. Triond heard them and introduced the flag button as a first step to improve the quality of Triond articles.
Why did Triond writers earnings decline? Google rated low of Triond and sent less traffic to it after the panda updates. So, why did Google rate Triond low? Triond published too many adult content, abusive content and low quality content and hence had to pay for it.

Should you have to worry about this new feature? Should Triond writers worry about this flag button?
If they don’t publish spam articles
If they don’t publish adult content
If they don’t publish plagiarized content
If they don’t publish articles of insufficient quality
If they don’t publish articles in wrong category.
Theoretically not even a single Triond writer has to worry about this flag button if they don’t publish spam/adult content/plagiarized content/articles of insufficient quality/articles in wrong category. But it can only be theoretical, because some Triond writers might misuse this feature.
The flaws of Flag button: Some Triond members may misuse this feature to get revenge on their enemies here. What would they do? They may intentionally flag an article as insufficient quality/spam.
Here on Triond I have seen some jealous writers who can’t tolerate the popularity of other writers. Some are already fighting with each other. They will definitely misuse this flag button.
It’s a good option: But still it is a good feature I would say. Internet has a few flaws and many advantages; can we ever stop using the Internet? Similarly flag button has many advantages and only a few disadvantages.
What should Triond do to make the flag button meaningful?
If an article is flagged for say about 25 times, the author should be asked to make the necessary changes in the article to avoid removal of the article.
No member should be allowed to flag content more than once. Triond must use the right program for this.
If a writer deliberately flags a particular writer’s articles, he/she should be severely warned and if they continue this misbehavior, they must be banned from the site.

Limitations of using Flag button: It’s not good to remove content as its writer would have spent much time on it. Yet, if it is going to affect Triond’s ranking with Google, it has to be removed. However the writer may be given a warning and sufficient time to make the changes to avoid removal. Until the writer makes the appropriate changes, Triond can make the article invisible.
Removal of content: Removal decisions should be made by humans after careful scrutiny and no computer program should be used to decide on the removal of an article. Remember quality articles are more important than quantity.
What will happen if Triond does not act on the feedback? I do hope Triond has introduced this flag button to improve the quality of Triond articles. They need to weed out the articles that are not search engines friendly from Triond. If they simply get the flag button feedback and don’t act on them, the purpose of flag button will be lost.
Summary: Triond has introduced flag button to improve the quality of Triond articles. It’s a good move. Triond writers need not worry about this feature much and continue to contribute quality articles to Triond. However Triond should use best methods to identify the real adult content, low quality articles and remove them after giving a warning. That’s the only hope for Triond writers to improve their earnings in future. Thanks for reading.

If Triond were truly serious, I believe they would find a way to review and edit articles themselves. Why not be a professional site like Suite 101 or Associated Content. These sites use a team of professionals to review articles before they are posted. Why would Triond leave their writers exposed to folks who have no training. Why?
Why create possible trouble. Why create a possible circus of jealousy or malice. Seems it would be an easier thing to do, with no ” loop holes”.
The flag it button is an abusive tool. Even so, why not elect a certain team of veteran Triond writers to handle editing and reviewing articles?
I’m all for Triond becoming a professional site like Associated Content or Suite 101. But do things professionally.
Triond takes 10 years, it seems, to respond to consumer complaints. Come on, they’ve got to get it together.
If we have to list all these pros and cons of a flag button, we know there’s a rat crawling around.
I think it’s awful! How could they. There are writers on Triond who have been stalked and ruthlessly spammed for months. Triond has done absolutely nothing about it. What do you really think? We’re dealing with a company that passes the buck. I can think of nothing else.
Triond should have the administrators or editors who answer emails also edit and review articles. All it takes is some organization. What is it? Are they lacking funds to do things properly?

Wow Sir, sorry my post was so long. I usually don’t write so much…
July 19th, 2011 at 1:16 pm
super likes .. how did u come up with such gud ideas….:)))))

Hi, Minister Marlene, thanks for your response. I always admire your frankness.
I fully agree with you that it will be good if they review the articles before publish.
They are short of staff.
Either they can’t afford to employ more staff? Or reluctant to do so?
Triond has at last made the first step to revamp the site.
Ok, if flag button is not needed, how will you stop adult content, abusive content, low quality content being published here? How will you increase Search Engine Traffic to Triond?
Triond writers’ earning is going down every month after the Google panda updates.
If this scenario continues all writers will move to other sites. Who can afford to write hundreds of articles to make pennies?
Thanks one again, I value your response friend.

I am still trying to figure out the meaning of spam articles, since Triond has always allowed people to promote their affiliate programs.
July 19th, 2011 at 1:32 pm
Thanks Article for the compliment.
July 19th, 2011 at 1:35 pm
That’s a good point mphsglo. It should be restricted.
July 19th, 2011 at 1:47 pm
What should be restricted? Most content sites allow affiliate program promotions. In fact, other sites are where we promote Triond and our articles. So, if we can’t promote our other affiliate programs, then, we shouldn’t promote Triond on other content sites. I think that particular flag should be rethought.
July 19th, 2011 at 1:50 pm
I do agree that removing content should be done by humans…hence, it doesn’t matter if a post is flagged 25 times, let’s say, as it can be flagged by jealous users…the final decision can and should only be done by Triond(a person administrator…not a robot)…:)
July 19th, 2011 at 1:55 pm
hi, mphsglo affiliate programs like Amazon, Ebay, Google ad sense must be allowed. Over promotional articles and spam articles should be restricted.
If some one manipulates methods to move front to the search engine rankings, its spam.

I fully agree with you neopisiva. glad to note you know the subject so well.

I think we have to wait and see. So many members are worried that the flag button will be abused without giving it a chance.
I used the fIag button with satisfactory results when I found an article in the wrong category. It was well written and well researched but was submitted to Purple Slinky which is for offbeat, humor, jokes, and trivia. The article was a serious piece that probably wouldn’t get the exposure it deserved in that category. I flagged it as “wrong category” and within 12 hours I received an email from Triond telling me that after reviewing my suggestion, they removed it from Purple Slinky and resubmitted it to Socyberty.
July 19th, 2011 at 3:44 pm
V. good piece! Triond hopes that we can police ourselves! That’s questionable!
July 19th, 2011 at 4:03 pm
I think the flag idea is good if not abused. I have read many articles that were written in very bad English and difficult to understand. These types of articles bring down views. Why visit and search a site for good articles, when it is filled with trash.
The wrong category is an excellent feature if it causes no repercussion to the writer. I have posted articles myself that ended up in the wrong category and I was declined when I ask Triond to move it.
There are many very good writers here and I enjoy reading my friends articles. Triond is a wonderful community and I think if we all stick together we can make it a wonderful site to write for.
July 19th, 2011 at 4:25 pm
I definitely agree with you that quality articles are better than quantity. Very well written article. Love reading your work. Thanks for sharing.

Good discussion about this issue. Thanks!
July 19th, 2011 at 10:37 pm
That’s a good news Darlene McFarlane. Triond is taking action and responding to the feed back.
But as you said, let us wait and see how things develop in the coming days.
July 19th, 2011 at 10:39 pm
hi, erwinkennythomas, Triond can’t read every article and that’s why they want us to police ourselves.
July 19th, 2011 at 10:41 pm
I fully agree with your views Von Shanks, thanks.
July 19th, 2011 at 10:41 pm
yes, thanks, prospectboy.
July 19th, 2011 at 10:42 pm
Thanks MarcoP.
July 19th, 2011 at 10:47 pm
Those who aren’t worried aren’t familiar with myLot, I guess. I AM worried about such a button. Good content could be removed for no reason. I would hope, unlike myLot, that humans will monitor these flags. If Triond members find their articles being deleted for what they feel is no good reason then they will leave Triond and publish elsewhere. This would be unfortunate. Triond has been a good place to get exposure and a little cash.
July 19th, 2011 at 10:54 pm
Some valid points made. Personally speaking, I reserve my best articles for sites like ezinearticles.com and Suite101.com. As far as Triond is concerned, quality has always taken a backseat.
July 20th, 2011 at 1:15 am
i just know about it, since i’m a newbie.. then I wonder why my google adsense income very low rencently.. maybe it’s the influence of google panda,
I also don’t know my article is good quality or not (shame) maybe google panda have eliminated it..
July 20th, 2011 at 2:35 am
I do hope the button is not mistreated. Thank you for trying to reduce our concerns.
July 20th, 2011 at 5:21 am
Nice insights! Thanks!
July 20th, 2011 at 10:29 am
hi, Mary Patricia Bird, I think Mylot is completely different from Triond. Let us hope Triond staff will review the flagged articles and decide what is to be done with it.
But I have seen some good signs after the introduction of this button.
July 20th, 2011 at 10:38 am
hi, that’s great DR.VNS. But Ezine is only for driving traffic to your blog, you can’t earn anything there.
July 20th, 2011 at 10:39 am
hi, reiny many sites are hit hard by the panda.
July 20th, 2011 at 10:40 am
hi, Christine Ramsay, I think, we don’t need worry much about this.
July 20th, 2011 at 10:40 am
Thanks beingwell.
July 20th, 2011 at 10:45 am
I think the button is ok. Thanks for the share.
July 20th, 2011 at 11:08 am
I also think so Lasaev.
July 20th, 2011 at 3:06 pm
Im glad someone wrote this!!! I was thinking it..you just wrote about it !!! Thanks awesome article
July 20th, 2011 at 9:30 pm
I believe the button at least will deter further publishing of spamming or low quality articles from nowon. Only time will tell how much it will be abused. Moreover, it’s unlikely for Triond to review every article before it’s published. It’ll take ages and writers will still drop out because of the long wait.

Very good review.
