The lecture and reading passage contents are in contradiction.The speaker supports forest fires by scientific reasons where the reading passage supports fire suppression by chemical tests and also wildlife can be benefited by it.
Firstly the Speaker states that nature oak tress are grown thickly so that a beam of light cannot reach ground level of the forest. This harms the younger plant’s life as they need light for survival and there is a competition between the ground level trees in oak and hickory forest, for the light.So burning off the huge thick teree can reduce the competition. The Reading passage , however states that the amount of destruction by fires and cutting are reduced since trees can live longer and heal .Their fire suppressing has allowed so that the tree tops form a continuous canopy.
Secondly, Speaker include the following scientific reason to support forest fires. Deer population can be increased due to lack of forest fires and hunting. And deer likes oak trees cannot live with leaves.Moreover they need the light to survive.This proved forest fires release nutrients from burnt plants and animals, which supports forest fires. Where as Reading Passage includes chemical test on areas, observed destruction of forest fires will decrease overall amount in nutrient in soil.Suppressing fires increase nutrients content is soils which in turn helps herbs, wild flowers to grow with out disturbance.In addition to this , suppressing fires will help deer population to survive.
On the whole, lecture includes the points supporting for forest fires and passage includes points supporting for suppresion of forest fires.
