Three Needs for a Successful Online Writer

Want to be an Online Writer, then go get yourself these three things. And I say,Get it because I firmly believe that nothing is impossible, but the term.

1) A 24 hours internet connection which also means a laptop or PC and regular electrical supply.

2) A good command over English and an intelligent mind to grasp the workings of the internet especially the   basics of online marketing tools and  techniques.

3) Patience, Patience, Patience…and more.                                                                                                           You may have excellent writing skills and a fantastic vocabulary to boot. You may be really bright and a pro at SEO. You are online – connected day and night. You work hard and expect results. You will get it- if you know how to wait for it .

So, do you think you have it in you to be an online writer?

If you are living in Africa or India you might be facing problems with irregular electrical supply and slow internet facilities. It’s amazing how much people in the west like the US and UK take for granted. Really, they rarely(almost never) have power supply cuts and the internet just runs here like it’s on “high speed”. I know the difference because I have experienced it myself.

Now language, can be issue because though most of us from the former British colonies speak English and we may have a big degree in the language even. The fact is, it doesn’t come to us as naturally and then there are all the colloquial terms and conditions we are blissfully unaware off but it does reflect in our comments and writing style. Never mind we can always try and learn how to do it better in the English Way!

As for the online marketing knowledge and skills, again the only advice I can give is to, get acquainted and keep refreshing, because there are innovations being introduced nearly every day!

Finally, give yourself the time to write, re-search, and sell your work. Be kind to yourself: expertise takes a while to process and express. Along the way there will be road blocks but you’ll reach the end if and only if you persevere. Patience and Persistence, my friend, are the greatest virtues every online writer should aspire too inorder to be successful!

All the best!

It helps if you have something to say too!
    .
It’s a shame that there are not such large markets for things written in languages other than English, which seems to dominate the internet.

I’m very frustrated with the internet connection here. I almost entirely use internet for my online activities on triond and some other sites. Compared to the amount of money I spend on internet, the speed is really slow.
My English sucks. It’s so depressing when I’m reminded of the truth but it is the reality. Wish I was from an English speaking country.
Do you think I should still continue writing, with all these problems?

I don’t agree about the first one. And while the 2nd one is a must – you can start with a bad English (and work hard on each article) and slowly improve your English.

thanks for you views Ixodoi. Maybe 24 hours is taking it too far. I just emphasize the point of having a fast, uninterrupted internet connection. It can be damned frustrating have a bad connection and then fickle power supply. I have experienced it in India…you need grit to overcome those obstacles. It’s tough enough beginning a writing career.
As for your comment on English, I agree that there is always scope for improvement.
    thank you for sharing.

Apologies for the typing errors..am like reading, writing, commenting, responding…like I am in a marathon or something. truth is I badly want the 10000 views badge today.

I am sorry Robert heston but I didn’t quite understand your comment.
I honestly believe that the 3 points are significant to success. Perhaps I wasn’t able to give the article as much attention because i’ve been obsessed with getting the 10,000 badge TODAY, just for kicks it hardly has anything to do with the earnings. So far I have earned only 2.50 dollars and that can’t even buy me a decent cup of coffee in some places..

it is a difficult task to get people to read what you have to say…what with millions of writers displaying their literary skills on the net every day.therefore it is very very important to write things people would be interested to read… u , my friend, are getting along well..

    Yeah, Writing can be difficult..

Wouldn’t a solution to the problem you have mentioned would be use a conventional method of writing. And by that I mean using a pen and pencil and then quickly type it up when internet is available. :P
