The Real Reasons You Should Read Other Writers Work

If you are simply taking a quick peek at the work of other writers in the hope that they will view yours you are missing out on the real benefits of reading other writers work.

Many people on publishing sites like Triond read other writer’s articles in the hope that those writers will return the favor so they can get more views and earn more money on their own articles. While there is nothing wrong with this it could mean that you are missing the real benefits that can be derived from those articles. Here are several good reasons how reading the work of others can benefit you.

Help to Improve Your Own Writing Skills

Reading well written articles can help you improve your own writing skills especially if you take the time to study those articles and analyze what makes them so interesting, informative, or so well written. I know my own writing skills have improved a great deal simply from reading the work of good writers.

Reading Others Work Can Save You Money

In this day and age when money is at a premium for all of us reading those How to and DIY articles can actually save you money. Having read articles on everything from making my own bath salts and skin care products to using things I have in my home to make cleaning products has save me at least $100.00 in the past year. Articles on Home and car repairs have saved my husband and I at least twice that amount of money. While this may not seem like much it can make a big difference in your income when combined with some of the great articles on budgeting and other money saving tips.

Reading the Work of Others Can Actually Make You Money

Recently for my ghostwriting job I was asked to take a large set of dog related articles. Thanks to having read a number of articles from both Brenda and Roberta I was able to accept the assignment and complete it in record time. Roberta’s articles on different dog breeds gave me a wonderful format to follow while Brenda articles on pet care allowed me to know exactly what type of material I wanted to research to complete some of the other assignments. Having read their articles helped me to easily compose my own.

There have been other times when reading an article by another writer has given me inspiration to write an article of my own. It may have an article stating an opposing view or simply a subject that fired my own creativity.

Increasing Your General Knowledge Base

Reading the work of other writers also increases your own general knowledge base. This simply makes you a more informed and well rounded individual and writer.

The next time you click on a writer’s work and have the idea to just scroll down to the comment section and leave a brief message without taking the time to actually read the article that was written ask your self who you are really hurting. The writer still gets credited for the view but, you have cheated yourself out of a world of wisdom and earning potential.

You are so right. I have learnt such a lot by reading the articles on this site. Time is the main problem when you have a lot of articles to read, but the benefits are worth the time taken to read them. Another really good post, Martie.

Its easy to spot who reads and who quickly scrolls to the bottom types in the word EXCELLENT and moves on.
postpunkpixie just wrote a review of a film she HATED and the first to commenters thanked her and said they were looking forward to watching the movie. Obviously they had not read a thing.

Thanks for the mention. I put alot of work into those doggy care articles its nice that people use the information.

You picked two great writers in Brenda and Roberta as their articles on dog breeds and pet care are some of the best I have read. I can’t imagine missing any article or story from Ken with his great humor or Ruby with her knowledge. I am sure you have seen if I find a article or story interesting it gets a longer comment other get a short one. Keep up the good work.

Right on, once again! I enjoy reading your good common sense. Like Brenda above, I too have seen some rather weird comments that have nothing to do with the article. Let’s all keep reading and learning from each other.

What a good and unique perspective on this topic. It goes beyond the obvious and presents a true picture of the benefits to the reader.

Great share indeed. I have to agree that reading is a great way to learn and knowledge is what can be inspiring. You can save money and earn at the same time. This is true. The only frustration I sometimes find is too much to read. Writing is learning and I presume that is why we are all here.

When I have some sort of writer’s block, I read and comment on articles by fellow Triond countrymen. I read articles for pleasure and write, but I’m finding ways to earn money offline in the meantime.

Very true indeed. I keep on reading other writers’ articles as long as I’m interested. I don’t mind if I read more articles than they read mine because as you said, there are benefits to be gained from those readings. Thanks for your wisdom-laden article.

I was surprised with the second one… But yes, you are right… Reading should be more than just increasing views…

Great article. Another point to make is that I get a lot of my ideas off of other’s articles. When I read their article, it will jumpstart something in my brain off their topic and I’m off and running. I like the way you write!
