The Qualities of a Good Creative Writer

Here are some traits that a good short story writer must have.

Every writer knows that writing is much  more then typing in words or putting words down on paper.  A writer must also have:

Imagination

An ability to give an infinite amount of attention to detail

A knowledge of the short story form

A good understanding of grammar, punctuation and spelling

A commitment to clarity of thought and expression

A willingness to apply the seat of the pants to the seat of the chair

Now these are just a few of the traits a writer must have.  There also must be talent and perseverance; but perseverance will take a writer a long way because perseverance will allow the writer to achieve many of the traits listed above.  In other words, nothing replaces good old fashion gumption.

You have to stick with it.  I don’t mean weeks or months.  I mean years.

Writing is a lifestyle and a gift from the gods.

Good advice. As they say, any result comes from 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration

Very nice, well put. You make great points. Is hard to be a writer sometimes. Although we all find our way to the top at some point.

I would comment that Creative Writer is a word-processing program created by Microsoft’s Microsoft Kids subsidiary in 1993. Using this program, which is specifically targeted at children,[1] it is possible to create documents such as letters, posters, flyers and stories complete with different fonts, Clip Art, Wordart and effects.
