The Mysterious Disappearance of The Palindrome

I’m a person who enjoys writing challenges, trying out new genres and forms of writing. As writers we can all improve by stretching ourselves and reaching beyond self imposed limitations. Therefore, I just had to respond to PHILLY DREAMER’s challenge to write a Palindrome poem.

Like many people, if it wasn’t for Triond member PHILLY DREAMER I would still be blissfully unaware what a Palindrome was. But as he’d laid down a challenge to us all and being a player with words, I just had to accept. This challenge was a double edged one, not only did we have to write a form of poem that was probably unfamiliar to most of us, but the topic itself was a challenge, reflecting upon what we saw when we looked into the mirror of our lives. If you haven’t already read PHILLY DREAMER’s article on Palindrome poetry, click here to find more about what was involved. It’s other name is Mirror Poetry.

Well, I commented at the end of the article that I wouldn’t go to sleep until my poem was written. Write I did, moving words this way and that. He was right, the challenge was a tricky one, especially to get the meaning to flow properly. Having finished my poem, fortunately written on paper, I wrote a short article and submitted it. Unfortunately, I didn’t keep a copy of the article. You see that little Palindrome simply disappeared.

When I woke this morning, it was gone. The title of the page was there, evidence that I hadn’t been dreaming, but when I tried to open it, the page comment up with only the title, no content. There was nothing for it but to start again. After all, my Palindrome has been written. I can’t just let it wither in internet space. So, here is what I wrote.

Mischievous eyes,

camouflage memories of

secretive stories

protected by age

because

protected by age

secretive stories

camouflage memories of

mischievous eyes.

Thank you PHILLY DREAMER for your article, Poetry Challenge: Reflections in the Mirror. It is challenges such as these that not only help us all improve our writing, but also help improve participation on Triond. If you haven’t already had a go at a Palindrome, please do. It’s lots of fun.
