Supporting Your Referrals

Many Internet writing sites have the opportunity for people who write to sign up others. In turn these sites usually offer the referrer a percentage of the money their new recruit has earned. This can be 5% on Helium, to 10 % on Triond, and Bukisa.

Sometimes people recruit those they know in real life. As such it is easy for the first person to assist the newer one and show them the ropes. However very often new referrals are made by referral links posted in articles and as such the new person may not have any idea who the person is that they signed up under, and visa versa.

Somebody you Know

If you are recruiting somebody you know in real life and having them sign up under you as a referral, make sure it is not a family member who uses the same Internet connection with the same IP as yours. This becomes hard to prove and makes it look like one person is cheating. It is better to have two separate accounts rather than one sign up under the other.

Have your person join with a human sounding name. It does not have to be their own name, but in the grander scheme of things people with a name that sounds human will get more respect than one who signs up as “CuteCute Pie123”.

Help them upload a profile picture and profile information and help them to navigate the site. Let them have your e-mail address and your profile on the site. Instruct them to make friends on the site so they get views in return. Explain to them what is acceptable conduct on that site, and help them with their first article.

Somebody you Don’t Know

When somebody you do not know signs up underneath you the first thing you need to do is send them a welcoming message informing them that you are there to help them. Some people will sign up and never be seen again, others will dive right in. It depends on their experience with writing for these types of sites.

Offer your e-mail and give them small pointers along the way.

Tips to Offer – Not all at once, but as they learn.

  • Tell people they should have at least 5-10 tags.
  • Suggest links be no less than 400 words (except poetry), and no longer than 2000.
  • Encourage them to write on subjects they know a lot about rather than those they have to research.
  • Suggest they read and comment on other peoples articles too.
  • Suggest they add friends.
  • Encourage them to use their own pictures in their articles or to find copywrite safe photos to use.
  • Make sure they understand how to delete unwanted comments (Spam) from their published articles.

First Article

When either person has published their first article be sure to view it. You can tell right away if they have potential or need more help. Offer critique in a friendly way, pointing out their strengths and weaknesses. If they need help with spelling point that out. If their formatting is off, point that out.

Make a comment on their first article, but send most information via a private message. If their link warrants promotion, you should do it. If you use any sites to promote and share links, such as Facebook, StumbleUpon, Twitter, go ahead and give that persons article a shove. It will not only help you but will boost their enthusiasm to write.

Instruct them how to share their works too, but caution them not to over do it and get labeled as a spammer.

Unethical Writer

If somebody has signed up under you and turns out to be using less than ethical, talk to them. This would be if somebody is using plagiarized information or running articles through translation devices. You will be indirectly associated with them if they continue, so if they do, report them.

Overall

Do not rush to sign up people until you know the ins and outs yourself. You will simply have people get fed up and leave. If you wait until you are knowledgeable enough to pass your experience on you will have more success when getting new people.
