Spotlight on Our Underrated Filipino Triond Writers

These Filipino writers have been writing for quite a while. They are good but they are underrated. It is time they take center stage.

These Filipino writers have churned out remarkable articles on Triond but are still curiously underrated. For a country that is the third most densely inhabited English-speaking country in the world after the United States and India, it is no surprise to find a huge number of Filipino writers on Triond. But for a country where English proficiency has deteriorated in the last few decades, it is noteworthy to find good English online writers who are Filipinos.

However, it takes more than just technical skill to come up with quality writing. I am not an authority on judging good writers. I cannot even say if I am a good writer. It is hard to critique my own worth as a writer for it will depend on the audience who reads my works. But I seem to innately know a good piece and a writer who can strike a chord with the readers and is sensitive to his target readership.  After all, writing is a science as well as an art.

I came up with this list as a reader of my fellow Filipinos’ works.  While some of them have established their little fan base, some make do with scant viewership. There are writers who deserve a slice of the limelight on this site not for their superior command of English, not for their popularity, not for their earnings, their dense portfolios or connection with the big dogs. My list includes Filipino writers who have been with us for ten months or so and have touched lives in their little corners on Triond with their publications. It is time we take them to center stage.

Proudly, they are Filipinos who stand on the shoulders of our acclaimed fellow Filipino Triond writers Nobert Soloria Bermosa, Papaleng, Rutherfranc, Cutest PrincessEddiego65, Verniel Cutar, deep blue, athena goodlight, K Kristie, AlmaG, Giftarist. Truth be told, there’s more where this fabulous group comes from.

Give it up for the following Filipino Triond writers (in alphabetical order):

AJ Garcia

There are three S’s to describe AJ’s works-short, sweet and significant. AJ’s love for God and nature permeate through most of her articles in a style that is soothing and mellow. Hers is a healing balm for a troubled reader, a respite to the restless soul. A photography enthusiast, AJ’s beautiful photos give her articles a powerful advantage. Brief article, light read, lovely images, meaningful content–  the total package.

Brewed Coffee

Engineer. Thai Ji practitioner. Musician. Artist. Brewed seems to have mastered the art of balancing her scientific and artistic aptitudes in an impressive portfolio of great writes. Brewed’s style is simple, direct to the point, organized and concise. Reading her page is like walking on a newly polished floor, careful not to soil it with dull and careless comments. Here is a lady who primarily writes not for the money but for her readers.

Clickmarbin

He is a full time agent in the food cart business but he has been reaping quite a success in online money-making ventures as narrated in his articles. His entries on online money-making are awe-inspiring to say the least. Clickmarbin presents them in a non-pretentious way, devoid of unnecessary arrogance. Though there are few grammar slips here and there, he succeeds in capturing the readers’ attention from start to finish. Clickmarbin is one writer who knows his trade and effectively delivers it to his readers.

Dee Gold

Dee is another remarkable teacher and a writer with a “heart.” Here, we find a lady who draws inspiration from her love of God and family. I fail to read some of Dee’s works but I can certainly gauge from among those I’ve read that she is in tune with what her readers want and favorably delivers them. Whatever vantage point she uses in her articles – wife, mother, teacher, celebrity fan, Triond writer- her sensitivity to her audience is what makes her a cut above the rest. Dee sticks to the easy read style– short and straight to the point, no beating around the bush, yet she manages to rouse viewer interest and make them leave comments.

Ek Encarnacion

He is Elyson Keith or Ely for short. This 22-year old chemist who is currently taking post-graduate studies in Environmental Science writes with vibrant energy similar to his adventurous treks on land and sea. Why not? Ely views his life as an adventure and takes his readers to his action-packed world through a wide array of articles from heart matters to food matters. If there is one writer who writes like he is graciously exchanging pleasantries with his readers, it’s Ely.

Elma Sandoval

Elma’s works mirror a smart lady who takes his life lessons to heart. Her articles speak to you in a neighborly way proving her deep concern for her readers. Here is another lady who writes for her readers and not for the money. With less than fifty articles in a span of two years, Elma sees writing as a journey. Indeed, it is a journey of careful steps, leaving inspirational imprints in the readers’ hearts and minds.

Heidi Fernandez

Heidi’s poetry takes you to a virtual ride along her reflective thoughts and intense moods. Her love poems range from tranquil to turbulent, one would think they are all culled from personal experience but amazingly, they are not. True to her profile description, Heidi puts her heart and only her heart in writing. Her writing can be compared to a high jump where she throws her heart over the bar and her mind follows through. Heidi is definitely a master in her own right.

Melody SJAL

A nurse by profession, Melody is one serious writer. She generally writes to inform her readers in a manner that is devoid of biases and pretentions. Perhaps this is what producers of the Philippine TV show, “Brigada Siyete” saw in her article, “Remembering the 1976 Earthquake and Tsunami that Devastated My City” to land her a segment interview on the show. Indeed Melody’s works vibrate in resounding melody that can capture the average reader’s attention.

Moron Savant

He is a Filipino writer based in Malaysia. Socio-political and religious subjects are his turf. True to being a savant, his style is formal and scholarly; his grammar, close to perfect. Reading Moron Savant’s work is challenging your grey matter to think, think, and think. Even his pen name is a thinking task. Moron Savant is definitely not a moron when it comes to quality writing.

Orlando Javier

Orlando is a freelance writer who writes on health and social subjects with authority. With his excellent command of written English, Orlando enables his articles to flow with wisdom derived from a colorful collection of life experiences. Yet, his style veers away from the moralizing kind. Rather, it presents a realistic view of relevant issues in a manner that can be easily understood by the average reader.

Phoenix Montoya

An introspective writer who is constantly in touch with her inner self, that is Phoenix Montoya. Phoenix is in her element when she writes poetry. Her poetic style is smooth and suave, makes me wonder how she manages to weave unfussy words in an insightful piece. Phoenix is a pharmacist but her passion for writing takes her to a world of creative imagination where the outcome can only be purely ingenious poetry.

Rhodora Bande

You don’t mess with Ma’am Bande, a high school teacher whose dedication to her profession and her hometown in San Roque, Norther Samar is truly remarkable. Her prolific roles as teacher and hometown citizen shine through her articles ranging from intellectual to down-to-earth. Rhodora is a source of interesting article ideas which she generously shares with fellow Filipino writers. Now it can be told that she is the lady behind my laboriously done and high-earning article about the use of English by Filipinos. I am grateful to you, sister.

There are definitely more good Filipino online writers but these are ones that initially come to mind when we talk of Filipino Triond writers who should be getting the long overdue recognition they deserve.  They are writers who make me click on their back links, who make me pay another visit to their profile pages, who keep me glued to my seat because I am engrossed, who make my kids block my view on the monitor to get my attention. If only for these, I can proudly say that they are good and they are Filipinos.

On the triond forums there is a thread dedicated to the filipino writers, and it has a hell lot of posts.

Except for Brewed and Rhodora, I still have to read the works of the writers that you highlighted. Also, I have not converse with them yet either in SKD or TFD-FB.

Opps, I just remember now, it seems that it was Orlando Javier’s article that actually brought me to Triond two or three month’s back. Thanks to him for leading me to Triond. :)

First of all, I need to tell you once again Likha how much of a treasured gem you are! Secondly, thank you for giving me 6 writers I knew nothing about. I will ask them to be friends as soon as this comment is finished. Your synopsis of each writer gives the reader a glimpse regarding what we should expect from them and it appears you have chosen some real stand outs. On a side note, please be advised there has been a major decline in the quality of English in the United States, as well. It literally makes my stomach turn when I hear Americans speak and write so poorly. As always, thank you my friend.
