Put a voice to your poetry. Every Thursday 4-7pm PST you can read your poetry live.

Recently a fellow Triond friend let me know about the Speak Easy Café, a weekly radio station that allows new and seasoned poets to read their work on air between 4-6pm EST every Thursday night.
While my ultimate dreams, as many of you know, is completing a novel series, I think that anything you can participate in that’s positive, utilizes your creative energy and helps you literally put a voice to your work is a great thing to get involved in. Plus, your participation in any courageous venture helps to further inspire others to continue to follow their dreams as well; courageous because as most people know, public speaking is one of the most universally feared activities in the world. I believe I once read that according to statistics most people would choose death over public speaking.
When I tuned into the previously recorded show to hear my friend’s reading, I felt a sense of ease at how kindly the host Nyla Alisia, spoke to each caller. Her voice is very soothing, nurturing and encouraging. My friend was reading and calling in for the first time and his courage inspired me to write this article and eventually do a reading myself. I’m planning on reading a poem this coming Thursday.
What’s also great about the show is that it is recorded, so you’ll always have a special way to look back a re-listen to your readings. I’m not sure which poem I want to read yet. It might take awhile, I’ve published I’m guessing close to over a 100 poems. I believe they ask you to keep your readings to approximately 4 minutes, but after listening it’s clear to see that they’re very open and accepting to any length or style of work. I could instantly tell that they really care most about making poets feel supported and special.
Check out their website and show, Speak Easy Cafe, maybe I’ll hear you read your poetry one day!

Good luck to you. You have more courage than I have. It is good to see writers being given opportunities like these.

Sounds interesting, but I wanted to know if a pre recorded file would do. My baby is home from school in the evenings and he would be speaking more than me on the radio show

**Thanks for all the wonderful comments!**
I’m not sure if you can submit a pre-recorded file? That’s a great question. I’m sure if you call in though, the host is so nice they’ll be able to let you know… I’m pretty sure they pre-screen their callers before they put them on-air for pre-questions like yours! *:)
Blessings.

Awesome! great idea whoever came up with it!!! “…as most people know, public speaking is one of the most universally feared activities in the world…” I’ve never had this problem myself. I love being “on stage” as it were… Being the center of attention always made me feel comfort, not discomfort! Thanks 4 the info Joie! got a few new pieces up & I’d really appreciate any likes, comments critiques… If you get a chance. Thanx, TommyP
