Software to Make Clear Images From Blurred Ones

A team of engineers has created a software, which can transform blurry photographs into clear images.

Computer vision engineers at the University of California, San Diego, researched the home photo collections and noticed that many pictures of faces were blurry. The team decided to come up with a software that can solve this problem. The algorithm, they have designed, basically makes use of the facial recognition techniques like those in photo editors to find a sharp image with a similar pose. The textures and patterns of the color and light in the blurry faces are then fine-tuned to match the model photo.

This technology can also be used to add color, shine and extra effects to the black and white images. The research work has been published in ACM Transactions on Graphics.
