Should a Writer Wrap His Life Up in His Writing?

From personal experience I can say no.

If you are a writer, that is a great calling, if you write for a well known journal though it might tend to go to your head. I learned that if your whole life is wrapped up in your writing, you might find yourself lost if you ever stop writing and publishing.

Your experiences may be good fodder for stories, but if your life REVOLVES around writing and you don’t take time to gather experiences outside of that you will suffer writers’ block quite often. The way that I am able to write practically daily is that I don’t smother my life in writing. I go out and live as well.

If you keep your experiences flowing, you’ll keep your ideas flowing as well.

I have said before, write when inspiration hits, don’t force it. Read, spend time with family and friends, go out and enjoy the early morning dew. Go try a new restaurant, see a movie, go to the lake…or whatever you are inspired to do. Ideas will find their way to you from time to time.

THEN write.
