Shelpeare’s View on Triond vs.. Expertscolumn (Part Two)

Which is better – Triond or Expertscolumn? Part Two focusses on the advantages of Expertscolumn and comes to a conclusion.

This is Part Two in the series “Shelpeare’s View On Triond vs. Expertscolumn.” In Part One we looked at the advantages of Triond over Expertscolumn. In Part Two we will be focussing on the advantages of Expertscolumn over Triond.

Expertscolumn’s Advantages

(1) More views than on Triond

Probably the biggest advantage of Expertscolumn over Triond and many of the big name writing sites is that you can get more views on Expertscolumn. I wrote an article just yesterday and posted it on Triond and by the end of the day I had about 11 views and a few comments. I posted the same article on Expertscolumn and got 147 views and no comments! Surely expertscolumn is lacking in the comments area but it whips Triond in views. Note also that I did absolutely no promotion or marketing of any kind to get those 147 views. Can you imagine the potential that articles on Expertscolumn have then?

Some writers state that Triond has a greater Alexa traffic rank than Expertscolumn but they do not realize that Triond articles are not published on Triond but on Webupon, Writinghood etc. Expertscolumn has a greater Alexa rank than twenty of Triond’s sites, hence the greater traffic. See Expertscolumn Traffic vs Triond Traffic.

(2) More all-round article view consistency

As an extension of my first point, there is more all-round article views consistency. I have noticed that so far my article views on Expertscolumn are usually more than the number of my articles. If I have 38 articles on Expertscolumn I can usually expect to get a minimum of 38 views. The views are also spread out through my portfolio there and not like on Triond where a few star articles pull in views and the rest fade into oblivion.

(3) You can republish your articles from Triond, Wikinut etc here

The third great advantage of Expertscolumn is that you can republish your articles from Triond and other sites there provided that you use the same username. Triond, however, states that you must publish with them first. It means then that you do not have to write a brand new article to put on Expertscolumn. You can take your 300, 400, 500, 1000 articles from on Triond and republish them on Expertscolumn. That greatly satisfies the various needs of building up your portfolio on the site quickly, not putting all your eggs in one basket and having another form of article revenue with not much more work.

You may say that republishing your Triond article on Expertscolumn will make Google penalize the copy as “duplicate content.” However, as already noted, the copy often does better than the original. The original, also, shows no signs of being worse off for having been replicated.

(4) Transparency

Expertscolumn’s system is so transparent that you can make a science out of it. It is simple – 1000 views at present gives you $1.50 US. Let us hope that this system is sustainable and does not end up like the Bukisa Index. With Triond’s system writers always complain that they often get more cents for instance, for 50 views on one Triond article than for 100 views on another Triond article. It is not so with Expertscolumn. If you want to make $100 US you know exactly how many views you need.

(5) Some areas of article submission are easier

Although submitting content on Expertscolumn is not easier from the angle of losing the article’s formatting, one advantage here is that you do not have to put an introductory line to your content or wait for relevant thumbnails to load before you can submit your article. See Triond’s Thumbs Down.

(6) The “advantage” of not being able to post pictures or videos

Now how, pray tell is that an advantage, you ask, since many moan that that is a definite disadvantage. As noted in Part One of this series, this is a sore point for many in Expertscolumn. Well, to those who are not into uploading pictures or videos and the hassle that that entails it levels the playing-field. No one on Expertscolumn will outshine you just for having more interesting, captivating, relevant, copyright-free pictures and videos. What is a disadvantage can be seen as an advantage but only those who are not into uploading pictures will agree with this. Additionally, not having pictures uploaded to place on one’s articles prevents the problem that Triond has had with all sorts of sultry pictures appearing on the site which will be frowned on, not just by those with morals but Google itself.

(7) Your earnings are updated during the day

Another advantage of Expertscolumn over Triond is that your earnings are updated more than once during the day. With Triond you have to wait until the next day to see how your articles did.

(8) The Payout Minimum

Although Expertscolumn’s payout minimum ($5.00 US) is higher than that of Triond ($0.50 US through Paypal), that is not a disadvantage for everyone. It is an advantage for many. You see, if your country does not have Paypal you will reach payout on Expertscolumn sooner as the check (cheque) option for Triond is $50 US and Google Adsense pays out at $100 US. Also, with Expertscolumn giving you more views than Triond, if you have enough articles it is possible to reach the $5.00 US with Expertscolumn faster than reaching the $0.50 US with Triond given the same number of articles.

Conclusion

As you have read, both sites have their pros and their cons. Which site is better? Well, it all depends on what you want out of the site. If you are doing it for the fun of it and you treasure comments without thinking of monetary gain then Triond is the site for you, or even Wikinut and Bukisa for that matter. However, if you want to build an income out of online writing (and that is in fact possible) then Expertscolumn is not just better than Triond but possibly better for the little-known writer than many of the more popular writing sites since anyone who has one article will make more cents than someone with 10-15 articles on Hubpages waiting for someone to click the ads. That is no encouragement for the writer who is now starting out online. The potential to earn more is greater on Hubpages and Infobarrel than Triond and Expertscolumn combined but Hubpages and Infobarrel are still dependent on ad clicks so you can get hundreds of views and no clicks. Write for both Expertscolumn and Triond and get the benefits of both.

I like this. You’ve really explained it well and I am really thinking of spreading out my eggs a little; moving certain type articles like series to one site, how to articles to another, commentaries around a bit and debate articles at a site that promotes debate; that sort of thing. I really do like Triond and I have made some wonderful friends here and dollars and cents wise I don’t do any worse and in some cases considerably better than the next guy but I can’t make a living here. I write because I love to write but I would like to see some compensation for my efforts as well. Good article.

I wandered over to Expertscolumn to have a look. I’m not impressed. The page’s design isn’t bad, but the image quality of the buttons is extremely low, and the first article I saw was a terribly-written guide to french kissing that looked like a) it was written by someone who didn’t know English too well or b) it was written by a child. If each article has to be approved, then that says something about “Experts”column’s standards.

I’ll stick with Triond and blogging for now, but if Expertscolumn ups its game, I’ll give it a shot.

Regardless, good article, Shelpeare. I love unbiased articles.

You wrote equally well here, Shelspeare. I have a question. It is my understanding that Expertscolumn (EC) does not allow authors to use Adsense for income. Yet I have seen ads on EC articles stating “Place your Adsense ads here”, and when I read the rules for EC I can’t find a place where it states it is forbidden. It just says it is not necessary. Do you know if it is forbidden or just discouraged?

Thanks Matt and amosTheCat. @ AmosThe cat, as far as I understand it Expertscolumn uses Google Adsense but they put THEIR code into each article on behalf of Expertscolumn writers. That is why Expertscolumn’s writers are asked to abide by Google’s rules. There is therefore no need to have a Google Adsense account since it is their own that everyone is using and getting paid from. If you look at the source code of any Expertscolumn page you will see the same code starting with ca-pub. Triond does something similar but only with Chitika so we don’t have to sign up to Chitika to get paid. Triond also has other advertisers that we do not have to sign up with.

Your explanation to my question is very clear. Thank you very much. I will stop worrying about it now.
