Resources for Writers
Free or cheap resources and courses for writers are available on the Internet. This compilation is ideal to file and use for future reference.
Writing resources are always useful and free or cheap online courses to assist improving creative writing is an welcome addition to the writer’s tool box. This list is compiled of useful sites for improving English writing skills, short-story, novel or poetry writing.
Writer’s Village University offers several free/cheap courses. I am following the Novel Writer’s Course in August 2011 and it is free! There is a community of writers and mentors to help you through and a chat centre to make ‘classroom’ friends.
Author Holly Lisle offers a great writing course: This is a taster course and is a really good price ($5). I found it so useful while writing my first novel. She has a pro-active website too.
Grammar Girl is a free website to give you all information and exercises related to grammar issues. The answers are laid out in a simple to ready, easy-going manner. You can hear them via ipod sessions too.
AutoCrit is a brilliant tool for editing your work. You get three free goes per day or you can buy the software. I have used this for over a year and not paid a penny. A valuable tool in my writer’s box.
PaperRater is another useful piece of software for edting and proofreading.
Can’t decide on a character name? Try Name Generator, it is great!
Storybook is software that will help you organise your work. It keeps track of scenes and chapters while you write your novel or story.

Of course there is good old Youtube and many writing related videos are uploaded there on a regular basis.
