While many of writers say they write for themselves it is our partners, the people who read our work that earns us our daily bread.
While most of us who write articles for Triond and other sites have learned the importance of writing articles that are rich in SEO words and phrases because that is how we make and increase our income, few of us think little about how important it is to earn recognition as a writer in earning income.
While writing an article that attracts the attention of search engines is important to getting people to view a single article getting people to actually look for and read the articles you have written is equally important to becoming successful as a writer. While most of us know this in the back of our minds we don’t give it much conscious thought. A couple events occurred over the last few days that have caused me to spend quite some time thinking about just how important that recognition really is.
The first incident was quite small and was simply one of those nice comments we get from time to time that we love but don’t think much about. The comment said simply that the reader had read my work on other sites and loved a certain type of article I write fairly frequently. The second incident however, really hit home as I had a person request from a client to write a fairly long article. I was somewhat surprised as this was a client new to the site and she had requested me by name. After, I wrote the article and submitted it she sent me a message saying I did an excellent job which she knew I would as she had been following me on one of writing sites.
What really hit home was the realization that when we publish articles on sites such as Triond we don’t know who is going to read them. It could very well be someone who has a future project in mind who may someday be looking for a writer or simply someone who spends a lot of time surfing the net and reading. Either way, working hard at your craft and becoming known for writing good articles on a variety of topics can help you to earn money with your writing.
As writers we tend to focus on our side of the relationship the writing end, and all too often forget that we are in a partnership with someone on the other side. The reader of the articles. While it is our sweat and hard work that produces the article it is the reader who actually earns us our money be it a few pennies or a few pounds. In the end it is those people who read our articles, like them and follow our writing who make us a success. Without those readers, writing would just be a hobby and never anything more.

Well said, with truth.

You have hit several nails right on the head. I certainly know this; but in the scramble for hits I often forget it. At the end of the day, my reputation as a writer is all that I really have left. First the reputation, then the hits.

I agree, although I plead guilty to sometimes forget the other side, being to occupied in other things beside my writing.
Anyhow: I do believe good writers evolve and do not get born. We can all be good, if we just want to, but we might not all be just as lucky.

Rightly said. Even though we write articles, it is our readers that fetch us our daily bread.

Rightly said, readers are most important to us. Without them there’s no point writing. Good article.

Excellent article. I have actually started eliminating some of the articles from the beginning of my time here that have attracted minimal attention and are unlikely to do so.

Hi Martie,
This is excellent advice you have given us. I have to be honest that sometimes I focus more on writing my own articles than reading more of other author’s works. I have made a concious choice over the past couple of months to change that habit. I am also working to edit some of my articles that I wrote here in the beginning and now look like they need more work. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Chris

You have to write what people want to read that is for sure. When writing for views there is no captive audience like a newspaper or magazine writer has.

I fully agree with you Martie. Thank you for this insight. A reader once told me that he’s subscribing to my articles because he liked them. It’s a reward any writer would like to receive and find fulfillment. It pays to write quality articles like yours. Thanks.

All good points and well worth keeping in mind when sitting down to write.

I wrote a link on How to Convince your Parents to get a Pet.. and have a few girls that post on the like almost daily. As I remember what it was like to be young and want a horse dearly I feel I owe it to them to take the time to respond often. That is also important.

If there is no reader, then no use of writings…

A very nicely stitched simple information…

Two thumbs up on this article.

Martie, I agree with you completely. Some of my best earning articles are ones that were picked up on other sites because they fitted in with what other bloggers were writing about. They continue to get the greatest hits. It’s a pity we don’t know at the time we are writing what that topic will be.
