Some of the users here on Triond seem to think that they are receiving unfair treatment by the Triond editors. Are these claims justified?
Take a look at the topics on the forum threads on any given day: “Why can’t I make money on Triond?” “I wrote 3 articles and only earned 7 cents!” “Why did they decline my article?” “Who do those Triond editors think they are, telling me to revise my article?”
Who do the Triond editors think they are? The word “editor” should be a clue. They are employees of Triond. It is their job to select and edit the content of the work that gets posted on Triond’s websites. If I owned a website, I would not take it kindly if someone told me that I had no right to set standards for the quality and content of the stuff I agree to post on my website.
And who are we? We are freelance writers. Most of us are amateurs. We are not employees of Triond. We sign up, and send them our stuff, but they are under no obligation to post it. Most of us could never dream of writing well enough to be published by a traditional publishing company.
Why doesn’t Triond pay us as much as our content is worth? In my humble opinion, at least ninety percent of the contents posted on Triond (including my stuff) would be worth nothing if companies like Triond did not exist.
Wouldn’t we make more money if Triond had higher standards for the content it accepts? Probably. If they had higher standards, they might not accept my stuff. Or maybe not yours either.

Good point.

Really, I must say Triond editors are made of sterner stuff. You couldn’t have the same freedom of speech elsewhere as we have here. You could never say the same things so openly elsewhere. The best thing is not only does Triond take offence but promotes even accusatory articles as ‘hot content’.
Karen, you really say things like it is. When a hundred people say something, it does take courage to contradict them. I wish I have that courage. I’m afraid I lack that.

well put.

The truth is so hard 2 swallow. I wonder what all the people who take shots at the editors will do? Will they take their work elsewhere, I doubt it. Good topic Karen.

Hi Karen,
I agree with Uma. How many publication sites will allow articles that discredit their company? This really is a site that should be used to build our skills to further our writing career. If we don’t show them respect, then you could expect for the same editor to decline more of your articles.
Bless you,
Chris

I learned about this issue from you since I do not go into the forums.

I think Triond editors do their jobs well. Although they often decline my content, it is really not their fault. I always thank them for suggesting me do some corrections

that reminds me of an American Idol show where a contestant said to the judges “WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE ME?” it was hillarious!

Triond editors are great, brilliant and capable people. The only thing I observe that articles are pending too long nowasday!!!
Of course, I’d think people who said this were rude. Triond editors deserve respect too.
Well done! I clicked you “liked it”.

well said. I’ve found the triond editing staff to be professional and willing to correct themselves if they decline an article in error. They do an excellent job.
September 29th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
I have had a run-in or two with them, but all in all they are just doing a job… they are human like all of us are and can be known to make mistakes… people who have problems with them should contact them instead of scaring off other writers by whining in the form…. that is just my opinion
September 29th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
I agree mostly with what you say here. I do get frustrated with the Triond editors when they do things that don’t make sense, though. Lately, it seems they are making mistakes because they aren’t paying attention. I think some of the criticism of the editors is valid, though often it could be worded in a nicer way.

good points karen, i totally agree with you. and to all members who are complaining why their works are rejected or why their articles have small revenues, maybe you need to look at your contents and stop blaming triond.

I have no quibble with the Triond editors. They have always been good to me an I appreciate what they do for us. A good piece.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I have always found the editors to be kind and helpful. The Golden Rule is always the standard we should seek to use – show respect to others if you want them to respect you.

You said it all, sister. I have never had any problems with the Triond editors and when I need them they always answer my e-mails.
September 30th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
Karen I’m almost always in your corner, but not this time, for me at least.I quite often have a hidden meaning or have a word that ties the whole thing together and they always seem to botch it up for me and in my opinion it makes me look stupid.

Nice article. Great advice.

Why is it the editors are allowed to criticise my writing but I am not allowed to criticise there editing.
October 1st, 2009 at 1:08 am
I have found that if you present your problem to the Triond Editors in a very civil way without turning it into a shouting match, they will do everything in their power to help resolve the problem in a way that is satisfactory to everyone. Show these fine outstanding people some respect. If not for editors, there would be no such thing as bestselling authors, or Bestseller lists. Great article, Karen.

I don’t know how articles get declined here, quite frankly.
I’ve seen more than one article on Triond that could have been written by a young kid, with spelling and grammar that made my toes curl. I’m not being nitpicky… every sentence in the particular article I’m thinking of had at least 2 spelling errors in there, and this wasn’t compensated for by great content. Such articles should never make it past even the most slack editor.
I do think Triond should raise standards to at least screen out ‘work’ like that, because it make the whole community look bad and dilutes the better quality stuff that we write. If even the worst of my articles were to get declined, I would be pissed after seeing some of the crap they let through.
I wrote one article last night that was approved so quickly, there’s no way they could have read it. Another one, which I think was better, took 2 days to get approved. To me, it just seems like the process isn’t consistent, and that the quality of the editors varies as much as the quality of the writers.
I think you also underestimate your capabilities, or overestimate that of other writers. People who write for publishing companies aren’t Gods. The typical such writer isn’t any more talented than a very good Triond writer. Such people just happen to be in possession of jobs where they can do it full-time.
I don’t have a problem with the editors either way. It’s a business, and in every business there are things that could be improved. In general the model looks good.

You’ve written an insightful article. It may cause some controversy but the community needs articles that point out the things you’ve just pointed out.
October 3rd, 2009 at 9:55 pm
True. We all get impatient playing the waiting game. For money, for answers, for publication.
October 5th, 2009 at 10:22 am
I agree with you that Triond editors are human beings and doing only their duty etc.But in my view they are a little bit discriminatory in publishing articles.perhaps they are predetermined and preconceived. An article submitted by me was neither rejected nor published nor they directed me to revise it.Even my subsequent submissions were published.Hence I had to submit that article in yet another web site.As Editors they are duty bound, but as writers we are entitled to our own right, to vent our legitimate grievances. Are we not ?

Karen, well said, sister.

Karen, I didn’t belong to Triond when you first posted this article, so I’m glad I’ve found it now. I totally agree with you. Well done.

Din’t know triond even rejected some work..lol Here’s my take on triond http://writinghood.com/writing/why-self-publishing-is-the-best-thing-to-do/
Good post, thanks.

thank you! we all have to start somewhere. It’s bad to disrespect editors. big time magazines or anywhere else would not tolerate it. I think triond gives everone a chance, just look over the article and keep doing your best. no one should be disrespecting the editors. it’s always a dragon somewhere!
stay focused, stay encouraged.
