Thoughts on my first payday as a writer.
If I had a day job I wouldn’t be able to quit it, as I’ve made my first dollar but not my second. Today, Triond deposited $1.82 in my PayPal account, the first money I ever earned by writing. At that amount it’s a good thing money isn’t really my motivation or goal in writing, but still, it’s $1.82 I didn’t have before and I’d rather have it than not have it.
Also, earning a paycheck (or reasonable substitute thereof like a PayPal deposit) is not just a way to get money; if it were, it would be no different from getting money by begging on a street corner. Earning money for what you do, rather than getting money as a handout, is an affirmation that what you do has value. It’s nice to know that my writing is worth enough that it earned $1.82 up to the end of last month, as well as 1,348 page views as of right now. Some of the topics I’ve written on, like pet care, mathematics, and disaster readiness, may turn out to be helpful for those who read the articles–at least I hope so–and it feels good to do something that helps people, even in a small way.

Well done! Payment does get better, slowly, so hang on in there. This is a great place to be.
