Paste Magazine

The other day I started to receive a new magazine in the mail. I don’t know how the subscription started, but at least I’m not paying for it.

What exactly is Paste Magazine? How did I get it ?

I unexpectedly received it in the mail about a week ago. A few days after that I received the prior issue to the one I had just received. If that wasn’t enough, I find that my spam catching email address is now receiving Paste’s newsletter as well .

Now, I’ll admit that I’m a music lover. If it’s got a beat, or a catchy tune, I’ll listen to it at least once. So at first glance it would seem that Paste Magazine is a perfect fit for me as it seems to be entirely over the music scene and what’s new. It even has a compilation disc with each issue that has tracks from some of the major artists featured in the issue. It’s definitely been interesting listening so far, that’s for sure. It almost looks like Paste is trying to go after the Rolling Stone magazine except focusing more on “alternative” music .

Since the first issue I received had a form letter with it saying that I was signed up for a free one year complimentary subscription, I know I won’t be canceling it just yet. I’m curious as to what I’ll get over the coming year. Besides, nobody ever said I had to continue the subscription .

Still, I find myself wondering how I got on this list in the first place. Yes, I buy things on-line. I buy things through catalogs sometimes too. I’ve even been known to sign up to e-newsletters and contents using my spam account. So certainly I expect to be put on some other mailing lists from all that. In fact, I expect to be on even more odd lists as I donate to various charities and non-profit organizations. This one though, still takes the cake. I know I didn’t start to receive this due to something I signed up for on-line, as I use a pseudonym for all of that (it’s made for some humorous sales calls). It’s almost as though my name and address were sold from one list to another and yet again to another .

I won’t complain yet, as interesting, free content is always fun to receive. However, it does make me wonder what I’ll get next that I haven’t asked for .

    Author’s Note:
I just received an email today which explained that it is a complementary subscription from making a music purchase on overstock.com.
