Overcoming a Writer’s Block

Been dumbstruck by the greatest irony a thinker ever thought of – the writer’s block. Here are some tips to get your ink flowing.

It happens ever so often that a writer gets struck dumb – and we have all named this irony the writer’s block. It’s a writer’s worst nightmare, where the source of creation and ingenuity simply dries up and thus, so does the ink well. This sudden block of imagination can really halt your progress; especially if you’re working on a novel or a writing project – and it’s important to kick start your mind again, since this can continue for some time.

Although separate work through separate creative sparks, we all need the drive, so here are some used methods of getting rid of the writer’s block:

  • Draw a scene from your respective writing. You don’t have to be good at art, just let your scene flow. Make up the details and draw your perception on paper – this often pushes the brain, making it easier to writer.
  • Act out the part you’re stuck on, this is an extremely good method of getting rid of the block. Try acting. You can do it by yourself or get your friend involved if you’re confident enough.
  • Skip the scene and come back to it later. The tip is: always plan your blueprint on the novel, and then fill the gaps. This way you skip the scene, write the next one and continue on. Consistency is the key.
  • Read other novels. Since all work is inspired, you may get some inspirations from other people’s work. Start a good novel, analyzing writing styles and dialogue. This will help your mind freshen up and find your voice of narration.
  • Take some time off. Maybe the writer’s block is due to stress – because this can happen. Stressing too much causes frustration and the mind does not cope with too many feelings at the same time. Take some time to freshen yourself up: walks, jogging, hikes are a good way to ease up.
