One Year(kind of) on Triond

A year later on Triond, I reflect. Will there be another? Who really knows at this point.

One year ago I started on Triond.

Technically one year and three days ago I started on Triond.

More technically I wrote some articles in May, got side tracked, and returned. But you know what, I started on Triond in November of 2010. That’s my official version of the story. Those articles were a test run. I had been trying out different things in an attempt to earn a little extra money on the side.

Seriously, I really don’t count those articles that I wrote in late April or early May as part of my time on Triond. If you really want to get technical, I was kind of only semi-active until about December when I wrote my first WWE Smackdown report and then I became a full time member, although there were weeks where I just did the weekly wrestling show recaps(and later Young Justice and Batman Brave and the Bold).

A year ago, I think this website was held a bit better together.  There were less problems. Less busted gateways. Less articles going into the wrong sections(although it wasn’t uncommon, I’ll never forget one of the early TNA Impact reviews going into the Paintball section on the sports page). Thumbnails actually loading most of the time when they should be.

And there were fewer problems with the data being “XXXX” seconds behind, which has now happened every single day for the past four weeks. Yes I’ve kept track. Just take my word for this one, broskis and broskettes.

A year later, I’ve seen many writers come and go and some go and return later on. People have moved for much greener grass. Others have decided just to pop in with an article or a poem every now and then just for the fun of it.

I’ve often wondered what my purpose is here. I’m not all too fond with Triond’s management and their inability to fix some rather glaring issues with the website. Google seems to have decided to unleash their Panda on the world and really took a chunk out of us. Google hasn’t been entirely innocent in this either, but that’s another issue for another time. Plus when you rule the Internet, you can make whatever rules for “quality control” that you want.

365 days later, over 50,000 impressions, almost eight hundred articles, and one dead goat later, what have I learned? I’ve sat here, puzzling and puzzling till my puzzler was sore. Until I thought of something that I…wait wrong speech.

Actually I think that I’ve gained the most valuable tool for any writer, experience.

In the end, those who remain on Triond, a lot of us our survivors, people who will keep getting up, no matter how many times we get struck down. The measure of a writer is being too stubborn to give up no matter how little success. Or perhaps we are fools that will keep fighting long after the battle is lost.

I have no regrets.  Except for that one time I went to school without any underwear on. But that’s another story for another time. Everyone keep writing. I know I will until the bitter end you better believe it’s likely bitter.

Whether it be online, on paper, or scribbled on a bathroom wall in crayon, keep writing and improvement will come eventually. Just keep reaching for the stars.
