Many writers on this site are looking to turn their part time writing into full time careers. Networking with one another may help everyone find the job they would like.
I have been asked several times how you go about getting a job as a freelance ghostwriter. Since I pretty much came by my job through a friend and sheer luck I have not been able to give any really helpful advice to others. I decided therefore to do some research on the subject in the hope that maybe there was some formula that could be used to help someone find work as a ghostwriter or even a freelancer. To my dismay, there is little information available for free on how to go about accomplishing such a feat.
I did glean a few bits and pieces of information that I decided to share with those who might be interested. Here is what I discovered that might prove to be somewhat helpful.
Many freelance writers and ghostwriters who now write full time for a living began their career writing on free publishing sites such as Triond, Ehow, and Factoidz. Which means we are all beginning in the right place if we are hoping to turn our part time writing into full time writing.
Many career freelance writer earn their initial incomes from writing for a half a dozen of these sites or more.
Some sites such as Associated Content has a forum where you might be able to find actual freelance jobs. Some of these jobs are long term jobs some are not.
Spending time on the forums of writing sites and making friends helped many freelancers get their first full time writing job. I got mine directly from making friends on one of the writing sites.
Stating in your profile that you are looking to become a full time ghostwriter or freelancer will alert other people who may know of jobs that you are looking for this kind of work and they will let you know if they know of anyone hiring.
Having a professional writing resume and portfolio and then visiting writing job posting sites may get you some fairly good paying jobs.
Almost everywhere I got information from stated that networking with other writers is the best and surest way to hear about writing opportunities that can lead to a full time career. They also stated that finding such jobs is not easy and takes commitment and perseverance. Since Triond is a writing community and as such writers should support one another, perhaps anyone hearing of such writing opportunities becoming available could post it so that others may hear about it.
I know of nothing that can help more than writers helping each other to succeed whether it is with one article or finding full time writing jobs.

Useful for anyone from US but the UK market is a bit different. I have found that some US sites and publishers will not pay non US writers….they accept the writing and then point the writer to the small print. This isn’t the case with all of them.
It has taken me almost 4 years to get firmly established as a full time writer and I do make a reasonable amount on Triond, and Factoidz. (Associated Content pays pennies to non-US writers).
Most of my better paid jobs come from The Association of Freelance Writers (UK) magazine and simply by searching out jobs and applying for them. I send a sample (of something that is already published) so that they can see how I write. I have had a few jobs from doing that. The Writers and Artists Yearbook gives ideas for mainstream, actual magazines to send articles to.

Thanks for the excellent information and the time you put into this article. It’s not easy at all, as I have found out, to search for freelance or ghostwriting job on the net. But the time I have researched the jobs then I have to go to my other job and I don’t have time to write. I need to win the lottery so I can do what I want which is write.

I got into paid freelance writing by sending a sample feature and photos to illustrate it to the editor of a magazine about a topic I was interested in. That got me a further contract for 6 months and the payment was £189 for a 2 page feature each month.
