National Novel Writing Month Challenge!

Since November is the national novel writing month, I decided to share about NaNoWriMo.

For those who were not aware, November is officially the National Novel Writing Month.  The project started 11 years ago in July and eventually was moved to November.  The first year of the project only had around 21 people who took part of the writing challenge.

What is the project?

Basically the project, or challenge, is to write a novel in 30 days.  The word limit is 50,000 or more which will create a book consisting of 175 pages or so.  It may seem a little ridiculous to start a project that has such a hard deadline as this but it’s mainly for fun.

The point behind this challenge is to just write without thinking of mistakes, editing, or the finished product.  Even if you write a bunch of nonsense that is perfectly fine.  As long as it is fiction and is a novel in your eyes it will work.

Are there any prizes?

There are no big prizes like money or electronics.  There is a website badge and winner certificate.  Another prize is a manuscript, and the pride in knowing that you completed the challenge.  What prize is more important than a manuscript?

I have decided to give the project a go.  Starting November 1st I will work on the 50,000 goal by the deadline.  I will make a post close to the deadline and let everyone know if I am going to make it or not!

I challenge everyone who passes by this page to give the project a try.  Even if you don’t make the goal it could be a lot of fun, and if you do finish you will have a good start on a manuscript.
