This is what I find works, if you’re stuck, anything that others find works is good right?
These are the 5 steps I take when beating writers block.
I turn off my computer, I find that staring at a screen is even more effective than a blank sheet of paper for wiping your mind.
I find a folder or notebook with some lined paper (is less blank I find it’s better) and put it in my pocket with a pen.
If the weather is good I grab my bike and go to the nearest relatively undisturbed area I can find (failing that put on a calming CD or youtube some calming music), when I’m sutibly relaxed I get out my notebook and start jotting stuff down, what ever get’s into my head.
If I find that nothing it comming with any great spead, I’ll note stuff around me or something in the sound. For example… “the quite gargling of the steam” or trying to describe an object “the pylon… a great monstrocity of geometric shapes polluting the near perfect landscape” What ever, it doesn’t matter whether you’re writing like a 10 year old or like a profesional author.
If I am still finding it hard to write I take some time off, a week, 2 weeks, completely get the story or poem out of my head. Then try 3 and/or 4 again.
I sincerely hope this helps!
P.S. it’s not designed to help with a single storyline development, simply to try and get that creative process working again.
