My Article Idea Has Been Stolen by Other Triond Members

While normally we hate it when people steal our ideas for articles there are some occasions when this proves to be approiate and even helpful!

A little over a week ago, I started a series of articles about writers here on Triond whose work I admired. In the last week this idea has been stolen twice by other Triond writers. One did a take off article on photographers who work they liked, the other did a direct take off on my articles.

What is my reaction to this blatant stealing of my idea? Am I angry? Hurt? Disgusted?

Surprising as it may sound to many of you I am overjoyed!

The reasons why are simple. First, imitation as they say is the best form of flattery. I am truly flattered that not only did these other authors take the time to read my work, but that they found the idea worth copying in their own style. To me, their using my article idea, is almost as good as being stumbled or quoted.

While their intent may have not been meant to flatter me, that was the result.

Second, I truly believe that good workmanship deserves to be noticed. It is simply not possible for any one writer, to read all the other works here on Triond. Having other writers jump on the bandwagon and promote the work of good and excellent authors helps others to learn of their works which was my whole reason for starting my series in the first place. The more people willing to salute these writers, poets, and photographers, the more well known they will become.

Third, Pointing out these writers, helps other up and coming writers work harder to develop their writing. Who does not want to be acknowledged as a great writer. While all of us love to write it is certainly a plus when anyone notices the effort we put forth to publish good work.

Lastly, these types of articles mean that people are reading the work of others, learning from their writings and thinking of ways to improve their own. This could actually lead to Triond become a site for world class writers. While this may seem like a dream, it is an attainable one.

Yes, my idea for articles has been stolen and I am thankful to those who picked up banner and are carrying on what I hope becomes a long standing tradition here at Triond.

It is great to know who to look for. And if your article sparked others to promote a few others…. then good. I’m glad you are taking it well.

    How cool is that?
I actually wrote something several months ago where I used 4 or 5 other writers works as examples of how to be a better writer. Sadly at least one of those writers hasnt been seen for a while….

It was me that did the photographers one and I’m truly sorry Martie if you felt that was stealing but my main aim through that was to tell other people that photographers need attention because I did take a few photos too but they haven’t done as well as articles and I wanted to remind everyone that don’t forget photographers because there is talent out there.
I suppose you are overjoyed but please don’t take it the wrong way. On Triond every idea is stolen litterally even ideas like ‘How to earn money on Triond?’ and ‘Sites to help you get more views’ but I don’t think they should be taken very personally…

Great articles! I’ve noticed this at times too. Sometimes people tend to have the same idea at the same time. I too think it’s flattery. Nicely done!

Atikin: Don’t apologize this entire article was meant to tell everyone what a great thing it was that other people have joined in pointing out great work.

As I said, I was flattered that my idea sparked other people to start mentioning good works and authors.

Martie, your article on the list of best Triond writers is as old as Triond itself. I have read several myself. I remember I made friends with some of the writers mentioned in such articles; one such article, for example, is Karen Gross.

Many people worry unnecessarily that their idea has been stolen or their viewership has decreased because somebody else has written a similar topic. I disagree. For example, there are popular topics like losing weight, making money on writing articles, etc. Everyday articles on these topics appear, and still they do get read, because I guess people are interested in such topics all the time.

Moreover, people here read an article because the author is their friend: as a favor, whatever the topic, whether somebody has written them or not. If they interested in getting the facts straight, they may as well google it out.

Uma as I said before the title was not meant seriously…It was simply a title to get attention and to call attention to these other articles…or so I hoped. As I said earlier, the whole purpose was to offer support to anyone who wanted to bring attention to anyone whose work is worth viewing.

I really thought everyone would understand that this was a fun article with a serious purpose and not meant to criticize anyone.

It certainly was not meant to offend anyone.

aahah it’s awesome how you took this lightly, other writers should be just like you and think of it as flattery :P

It is bad when other steal your ideas but this one has been done before you wrote yours. Last year it was the Triond Bandwagon, which we all got on and found new friends and I did one on Triond Friends in which I listed my top friends. But it is never an old subject as new writers join and old ones leave so please continue your outstanding article series. I just remember we even has an article called, “Read Forward,” but I can’t remember who wrote it. It was about reading an old post for every new post you read. It was a success for quite a while.

I know Pam….I meant the whole article simply as a fun way to call attention to the other writers work…It was never meant to be taken seriously by anyone.

As I keep saying….many of us write on the same topics and each one has our own take.

I am glad that you realized that your should be flattered, especially since there is so much of it happening in life. Great idea to write about not only the fact, but how you felt. Awesome

I understand you weren’t serious but seriously we do often write about the same things without knowing anyone has written about the same subject. sometimes I publish an article and see another like one come out on the same day.

This article is why I pulled all my 70 published written word submissions last week. When the ideas are so original and creatively unique anger would be an understatement, it’s not flattering to borrow artful notions and distort the origins. I post music and photos here. That’s it!

Funny, but finding others stole your work, hmmmmn… still funny. Glad you are taking it well as one writer told here. Come on, it is not good arguing some writers are stealing your work. Isn’t it good to shame them? You are very nice to handle it well anyway.Your character say it so. Your article is great! I enjoy it.
