Multitasking vs. Focusing on One Thing at a Time

There are so many online writing sites that promise you passive income. I have been attracted to several sites such as Triond, Helium, Hubpages and Bukisa. I used to write for Associated Content as well, before their new rules with regards to international writers.

I wrote several articles here and there, but mainly wrote for Triond. I was primely motivated by Triond because I was able to reach the minimum payout very easily at 50 cents.

At the same time, I heard that some other writers were doing well here and there, and I became curious as to whether I could do the same. I contacted some of the writers and began looking at their strategies for success in writing. I learnt something very important from one of them.

This writer has started writing in 2009 and encountered some success in some writing sites. She related to me how she did it. Her strategy was simple. She would submit as many articles needed to reach payout every month at just one writing site. She would do so until she earned a regular income from the articles. After that, she would move on to another writing site and did the same – write as many articles as possible until she reaches payout regularly every month from the second writing site. Then she will repeat the process with a third one and so on.

She told me that she could not multi-task. I believed it to be a good strategy. Let’s compare it to what I have been doing.

I write a few articles for Triond. Then I get distracted by another writing site and wrote one or two articles for it. When the earnings did not come up to expectations, I went back to writing for Triond. Later, I would get distracted by another writing site that promises higher earnings. And I would write one or two pieces for them, and the cycle repeats.

As a result, which is not surprising that I had less than 10 articles at all other sites, except for Triond where I had 100. My earnings increased three-fold after incorporating Google Adsense and I was becoming even more inspired to write for them.

No wonder I have never had much success at other writing sites, there was just no focus. I was trying several sites at the same time and in the end, there wasn’t much success in most of them.

Now I know what to do. I was to earn a regular income from Triond through Google Adsense. At this moment, I’m getting a cheque from them every three months. I would love to get a cheque every month. So my strategy is to write as much as possible until I am able to be earn that amount from Google Adsense and then proceed to another writing site and repeat the process. I shall stop multi-tasking and focus on just one thing at a time from now on.
