Maybe for May Special
Top content means Quality content or just plain Popular content?
One of my Triond friends,Brewed Coffee, posted in our FB Group(The Filipino Diaspora).She said that there was a May Special which of course I didn’t know about so I visited my dashboard and yes I saw the announcement,
Announcing May 2011 Quality Challenge.
It sounds really interesting and yes very challenging but right now I have decided that I won’t think about it that much though that additional five dollars could be the best Triond news I ever heard/read by far and to be very honest my monthly Triond earnings isn’t that much.
Warning,this part might sound pessimistic.
However,I still don’t want to feel that whatever I have shared or will be writing for May can’t be considered quality or worthy of this special if I won’t be able to reach the goal at the end of the month.I know most of us here try to go for quality articles.Our articles that are not popular does not also mean that they are poor in quality.
Here are 3 more reasons why I’m not expecting much from this special:
1. I am a writer who focuses on what I feel and think.I seldom research about my topics cause most of them were based on opinions and things that interest me that was why most of them were included in authspot,socyberty and gomestic.
2. Like what was observed by another friend,Likha, in her article
Spotlight on Our Underrated Filipino Triond Writers,
I try to keep my articles short and straight to the point.I’m not sure if my readers/viewers will be able to stay longer on my articles but if they will read them twice then I think I might qualify for this special.I can still dream can’t I ?
3. Organic Traffic? If that will be the scenario for this May special my maybe will be maybe not cause
I’m still waiting for one of my articles to reach a thousand view in just a day.If that will happen, I won’t have a problem this May.
I’ll end this article being optimistic.The brighter side this May is that I already have one article,
Real Triond Friends,newsfeed,articles and Leaving Comments.
This article had showed me that I should stay in Triond with or without the bonus cause I value the friendship here.I am proud to say that in two days I’ve got 30 views.I repeat only 30 views but what made me very happy was that I received more than 20 comments and that means most of my friends who viewed it took the time to leave comments.
I end this article with my first question, Top content means Quality content or just plain Popular content?
Any opinion will be accepted because we are all unique individuals with different thoughts,feelings and perspectives.

I don’t really get this Triond announcement. They have a very lame criteria for choosing quality articles, foremost of which is average viewing time. And organic traffic….it just doesn’t fit in. I have my doubts.

Nice points, Dee. It bothers me that Triond articles are becoming more of like a talk-to-other Trionders, forum-like posting. The essence of what an article really is is slipping away. This May special, may, somehow, improve the quality of some Triond articles, if not all.
I just wish Triond would really give more importance to the quality of the articles rather than viewing time and organic traffic.

I have mixed feelings about this May special…or maybe I just didn’t understand it after reading it twice. LOL! If I had to read something twice, either I am really that interested or I couldn’t grasp the idea. In this, case, it’s both. But after reading it a 3rd time, I feel am not up to this challenge. Why? It seems biased and prone to manipulation. It still looks vague to me…my brain is not processing it well LOL!
So I guess, my taking this challenge is also a MAYBE…or maybe not…:-)

With or without the May Special, I will continue to write because it’s our summer break. That means more time to sit in front of the computer. It’s a difficult challenge but it’s definitely an interesting one. I’m looking forward to reading the articles on the Top Content.

The May challenge is good, but I have certain doubts. When they talked about the time frame a user sees ur article, I wonder how will we know the duration a particular read spent on our article.

We love writing, just write what we want. But if a writer wants to earn, they should write searchable articles in the net. This May special has a lot of loopholes and no badge?

I’m glad you wrote this to encourage people. I wish the bonus special was like the others. I don’t think this one will give people a chance but as you noted – that is not to say we don’t produce quality articles.

I agree with you on the fact that this months challenge is really going to be based on the articles that are the most popular and make it to the hot content list because of getting lots of comments or people have stayed on the page for a certain amount of time.
As far as quality that is a whole other topic all together, because this months challenge is easily manipulated.
To me the ones winning are all on the same subject by the same authors and it does not highlight the diversity of content that is available on Triond.
It reminds me of high school where everyone wanted to be friends with the popular kids, even if they were not the best candidates for “true friendship”.

I am not really sure how this special will work for everyone. I feel that I write quality content all of the time, but I am still confused by the organic traffic or about how long a reader spends on your articles. Like you, I like to write my articles and get to the point. I do not think I am going to try for this special. I like to get the badges for the specials. I do want to wish anyone who wants to try it good luck.

I read the May challenge and had to read it again to comprehend what we were to do exactly. I am not doing anything different this month and hope that we do see better quality content with some of our friends…
