I keep getting messages from new writers on Triond wondering how to make money here.  I have decided to write this short piece to explain what I know about how the system works and how to make some extra money by writing on Triond from my own experience.

When I first began to write here, I simply wrote articles and figured readers would show up to read my wonderful work.  That didn’t work so well!  Then, I began to ask questions about how other writers were making money on Triond and found out some simple ways to make my audience grow.

First, it seems to me that my largest audience here is made up of other writers who write on Triond.  Quite by accident, I began to make friends/fans.  Then, other writers asked that I join their “group,” reading and commenting on each other’s work.  This certainly does increase readership and immediately makes your $$$ rise since this is a “pay per click” system.  (Writers are paid by the number and quality of the audience clicking on their articles.)

Don’t forget to open a Google Adsense account.  Follow the simple instructions on your dashboard page.  It’s easy and generally quick; you may have to wait for Google to approve your account, so apply for your Google Adsense account early on to avoid delays in publishing your Triond articles.

Social networking is another way to gain an audience.  Most writers have made friends on Facebook, and those friends have friends.  Posting my article links on Facebook has made a huge difference in my following and, best of all, now you can link your Triond articles directly to Facebook.

Facebook is by far not the only social network out there that can help boost your readership.  The minute I post an article, I immediately post it on Twitter and StumbleUpon.  Stumble Upon really gets lots of notice and sends quality traffic your way.  All of these sites are free and are easy to join.   There is also Digg and Reddit but I don’t see the same results from these sites.  However, you may have better luck than I have with Digg and Reddit.

I have also discovered Xomba.  Xomba does something unique that other writer’s sites does not allow; they actually encourage you to post a bookmark to your articles that are posted on other sites.  From Xomba, I can write a short blurb describing my Triond articles, then post the link to Triond and if readers are interested, they can follow the link and read my article.  This is like totally free advertising!  How great is that!  Xomba is also a free site and you can click here to sign up free.

Another thing that makes a tremendous difference in readership is to search engine optomize your work. (SEO)  This means simply, make your work easy to find by using explicit words throughout your article that will enable search engines to find your articles.  For example, if you are writing about Bristol Palin, then use her name often; don’t refer to her as, “she,” “her” or any other vague references to your topic; in this case, a person, Bristol Palin.  This may seem a redundant way to write for those of us who have been taught NOT to keep repeating words or names.  However, writing on the Internet is different than writing hard copy.  If you want your articles to be read on the web, then write for the web.

Another way to increase your reads is to embed links in your articles to other work you have written.  You can also help other Triond writers out by linking to their articles.  In this way, you send traffic to a friend’s Triond article and they, in turn, will link to an appropriate article of yours.  Triond does not allow you to link to any of your own articles; only to articles appropriate to or related to the subject matter of the article.

I cannot believe that I haven’t asked for subscribers at the end of each article in the past!  You are not allowed to post your RSS feed inside articles, but you can add your RSS feed to your profile page.  Click here to learn how simple it is to add the RSS feed button to your profile page. http://getsatisfaction.com/triond/topics/can_we_use_rss_feeds

Then, be sure to post the link to your page at the bottom of your article and ask readers to “click on the link to subscribe to my Triond articles.”  If you ask people to subscribe, you will be surprised how many Triond writers WILL subscribe.  It is hard to keep up with all of your fan’s articles; in this way, you will be notified when they write an article.

One other trick I’ve learned is to use Flickr Photos. Use only those photos available for commercial use; you can do a special advanced search for appropriate photos.  Always do this!  You cannot use photos legally that are not open to the public for commercial use.  When you choose a photo, add a link from the photographer’s photo credit (under the photo) to link back to his or her Flickr page.  Then be sure to message the photographer through Flicker to let them know you have used their photo and ask them to tell their friends.  There are some wonderful photographers on Flickr and most will be very happy that you are using their photo and will tell others to check it out.

The last and most important points relate to the quality of your articles.  It is so important to spell check and to use correct grammar.  Nouns and verbs should agree!  If your work sounds amateurish, your articles will not be read should someone find your article through a search engine.  Be sure to write in short paragraphs; they are much for easy for the eye to follow when reading on a computer screen.

Also, research to find what the more popular subjects might be at any given time on the Internet.  You can go to Yahoo to see who and/or what is trending at the moment.  Understand, however, that this trend information is likely to change at any given moment.  Pay attention to the most popular/searched phrases; the lists are posted for you on your dashboard page.  It will give you a clue to what is working and getting read when it comes to article subject matter.

I hope this helps to get better readership for you!  I know it helped me; by writing it out for you, I can use this article to remind myself not to forget perform these important tasks to keep my readership up to it’s potential.  You might want to bookmark my article here so that you can refer to it as you find necessary.  If you haven’t yet joined Triond, click here to join free.  Happy writing!
